Xiao Xiao was pondering whether to move out of Yin Shaojie’s place when she overheard Lu Yichen’s voice beside her. “She did indeed transfer today, so she doesn’t have her student ID yet. She’s heading to the administration office now to report, but I can vouch for her.”

The gatekeeper, recognizing him, exclaimed, “Ah, I know you. You’re Lu Yichen, right? Fine, since it’s you, I’ll let her in.”

Yet, Xiao Xiao remained displeased. Although she was grateful for Lu Yichen's help, the gatekeeper’s attitude irked her. The way he looked at her was as though she were some sort of thief.

She prided herself on her sweet and lovely appearance; it was hard for her to accept being doubted in such a manner.

“Thank you, but I don’t need your help. I can do this on my own,” she told Lu Yichen, then took out her phone and dialed Yin Shaojie’s number.

His lazy voice came through the line. “Hello, what’s up?”

Xiao Xiao couldn’t help but feel a tinge of grievance as she spoke, “I’ve been stopped by the gatekeeper. He won’t let me in and doesn’t believe I’ve transferred here.”

Yin Shaojie burst out laughing.

Xiao Xiao’s anger flared even more at his reaction. Just as she was about to shout his name, Yin Shaojie’s laughter ceased, and his voice softened. “I can tell you’re upset. Wait right there, I’ll take care of it.”

Suddenly, Xiao Xiao heard a woman’s voice in the background, asking whose phone call it was. The voice was soft and delicate, the kind that no man could resist.

“Who are you with?” she asked, her tone tinged with frustration. She had been wronged outside, and there he was, flirting with someone else.

Yin Shaojie either didn’t hear her or chose to ignore her, hanging up the phone abruptly.

“Hello!” Xiao Xiao yelled angrily at the phone.

Lu Yichen, looking at her with concern, asked, “Are you alright? What happened?”

From her expression, it was clear she was very upset.

Pouting, Xiao Xiao replied in a disgruntled tone, “Some people value love over friendship!”

However, less than a minute later, the gatekeeper’s phone rang. Upon seeing the caller ID, he was visibly startled, answering the phone respectfully. After a brief exchange, he looked at Xiao Xiao in astonishment.

When he hung up, his attitude had completely shifted, and he smiled at her, trying to appease her. “My apologies, it was all a misunderstanding. I was in the wrong. You may go in now. The principal is expecting you.”

Only then did Xiao Xiao feel satisfied, raising her chin and walking inside with a confident stride.

Lu Yichen followed behind, his expression filled with curiosity. “The principal? Who are you exactly, that you’ve got the principal involved?”

Xiao Xiao grinned mischievously, raising a finger to her lips and shaking it in a secretive gesture. “It’s a secret! When we’re better acquainted, I’ll tell you.”

Lu Yichen chuckled lightly. “Is that your way of flirting? I’m not someone who just makes friends with anyone.”

“Oh, I know. You’re the top student, right? Top students are very picky with their friends. Especially someone like you, so handsome and smart. I’m sure you have girls flocking to you all the time, trying to strike up a conversation,” Xiao Xiao said, smiling proudly as she put aside the thought of Yin Shaojie’s infatuation.

“How did you know I’m a top student?” He shot her a curious glance.

Xiao Xiao raised an eyebrow, smiling playfully. “Because I’m smart! I can tell right away that you’re the top student type. Was I right? By the way, the gatekeeper said he recognized you. Why’s that? Are you well-known around here?”
