Well, there might be a cultural difference here. In my culture the word "lovely" is also used to put a positive thought in the person head and try to make her feel good. On facebook you don't +1 RIP posts because facebook uses the word "like" and it doesn't really fit in that situation. By the way, I am glad we had an opportunity to explain each other :)
What? In which world it is inappropriate to say "this cat looks lovely" when a cat looks lovely? Even if it is sick, what is the 'error'?
She feels bad because the cat is sick. Think about that we usually don't +1 on RIP posts on Facebook. Just saying "lovely" is not a good timing IMHO.
