How to learn Korean - The Construction of Korean(HanGwr) Alphabet
HanGwr makes letters by combining the consonants and vowels you learned earlier.
However, HanGwr uses letters differently from the way English is written.
How to make letters is different.
HanGwr is composed of the first sound and neutral(middle sound) or last sound.
The first sound consists of consonants, the middle sound is the vowel, and the last sound is the consonant again. Of course, there are letters composed of only the first sound and the middle sound. In this case, the first sound is consonant and the middle sound is the last sound. The sound of the vowel is the last sound.
English uses 'm i n d' as the alphabetical order of 'mind'. However, Korean 'mind (Maxwm)' corresponding to English mind does not write like English spelling. If you write it like English, it will be written in the order of 'ㅁ (m), a (a), ㅇ (x), ㅡ (w), ㅁ (m)'. In Korean, 'ㅁ (m)' is pronounced as 'ma' and 'ㅏ (a)' is pronounced as a middle sound.
In addition, 'ㅇ(x )' of '(xwm)' consists of the first sound in silent silence, 'ㅡ' in middle sound, and 'ㅁ' in last sound.
The HanGwr RoMang type is ‘Maxwm’
- English Type : ㅁ ㅏ ㅇ ㅡ ㅁ - Korean Type : 마 음
‘마(Ma)’ is the sound of one syllable with no final sound. ‘음(xwm)’ is the sound of a syllable consisting of the first sound, middle sound, and last sound. Here 'Ma' is meaningless with Korean letters. It must be expressed in the ‘마음(Maxwm)’, which means 'mind' in English. (Of course, there are many words in Korean that have a single syllable meaning.)
In the same way, HanGwr RoMang also composed letters(syllable) with the first sound, middle sound, and last sound. It is like the principle of creating HanGwr.
Only letters are in alphabetical order.
◆ In phonology, it is called as a specialized academic term.
