Please Don't Molest The Students
So yesterday I was reading an article from the Korean Times "Foreign Teachers told "Don't molest students'"
http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/nation/2018/11/177_257899.html?fbclid=IwAR3K__T2WOYgw2-fm1LOxLezYfxkg9rAKd3ZoAbUuUqByDA2aAvpDnpAMa4
The long story short there was a seminar for Native English Teachers (NETs) to inform not to well molest students.
You can read the link above for all the details but this is something that's been going on for a while in Korea.
It's true that some NETs are bad without a doubt, but the same thing can be said about Korean teachers. There's been plenty of scandals involving sexual deviancy between a male Korean teacher a female Korean student, so it's seems hypocritical to just pinpoint NETs.
But the truth is Koreans are more comfortable pointing at the problems foreigners cause then dealing with the problems their own people cause, just like many other cultures do. Also, Korea is still somewhat of a sheltered culture. They have a difficult time discussing these topics openly, that is why when you read the above article the seminar was such an awkward event.
So if you're looking to teach in Korea just keep the above in mind. There is a reason I classify English Teachers as Scumbag English Teachers because no matter how good you really are (or bad) you really the source of Korea's problems. With that said if you come here make it a point to be your best, so while other people may point negative stereotypes at you NET friends they won't point them at you.
