Maximizing your brain for effective smartness
Hello amazing steemians, @oghie here
How often do you find yourself distracted when trying to finish a crucial task? How often do you promptly pop out of a daydream for the hundredth time when you know you need all the available attention of what’s in front of you.
Permit me to say, procrastination is a natural byproduct of the human’s brain being impotent to focus 100% for long period of time. Researchers have discovered that we can only focus on a specific task given to us 53% of the time. So working on developing a strong “attention muscle” is the key to creating more focus on assignments and, an in return, allows us to spend our time and attention perfectly.
How can we train our minds to become more focused
*Distractions
The way we decide to spend each moment breaks or makes our productivity. While technology has made things easier and much faster in many areas of our life, on the other hand to, it’s also the biggest cause of distraction. The quick-fix incitement it gives us outweighs the meaningfulness we find in projects and tasks. In terms of speed and convenience, technology gives room for us to work much quicker yet the absurdity here is that the faster and quicker we complete tasks, the tougher it is for us to work in a careful manner. And this all boils down to why we spend 47% focused on anything but the task at hand.
- Daydreaming
Each and every one of us all, have times when our opinions and thoughts lure us into a daydream of an ideal life. According to researchers, it was proven that we spend approximately over 47% of our time daydreaming. This connotes that while you should be focused on numerous crucial tasks during the day, half of that time is focused on something else (most times meaningless things). We fall prey more to this when we feel glued on an assignment that demands a lot of time and energy. Our brain dreads the ‘hard work’ and wants to avert it as much as possible thus we ultimately lose concentration.
Apparently, this happens without saying that this has cost us vast productivity most especially as our attention and time are so inextricably attached in order to get the right things done. In addition, the less attention you commit to an assignment, the more time you have to complete it because you’re actually working less competently.
- Be mindful of your distractions
Whenever you have an assignment or a task, it is advisable to keep a notepad by your desk and pinpoint interruption, distraction, and daydreaming. This will make you much more cognizant of how frequent it occurs and can ultimately allow you to handle distractions before they arise.
NOTE
In other to be fair to yourself, try as much as you can to spend more time on working on your distractions and trying to avert them. Try becoming more conscious of where your focus is going. By so doing you’ll encounter the wonderful feeling of flow, success, and fulfillment in completing burdensome tasks.
