The knowledge of God: But soon I will stop speaking figuratively and will tell you plainly all about the Father
The disciples of Jesus are disconcerted by his teachings and this is because an inner transformation of the heart is needed to understand the true meaning of Jesus' message: "Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again" John 3:3.
Jesus sees the future, but he cannot change what is about to happen: "Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.", Matthew 26:41.
Jesus has a destiny to fulfill. Jesus knows that he will be handed over, judged, condemned and crucified. After his departure, Jesus returns to the Father, and the Holy Spirit will be the inner teacher of the disciples and they will no longer need parables to understand the doctrine of the Kingdom of Heaven.
And this is what he promises them in the Gospel of John, the knowledge of the truth and of the Father:
"In that day you will no longer ask me anything. Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.
´I have spoken of these matters in figures of speech, but soon I will stop speaking figuratively and will tell you plainly all about the Father. In that day you will ask in my name. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf. No, the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.´" John 16:23-28.
Jesus warns the disciples that they will suffer oppression and persecution, but that this should not be a "stumbling stone": "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world" John 16:33.
Faith is not a virtue, faith is a spiritual gift that shows us the path of life.
