Sweater Project #4 - 10 February 2025

I’m happy to report that the first sleeve is well underway and I’m hoping to complete that today. I’ve made a point of knitting more than my 5cm target just to get things done.
The angle of the photo above is a bit crooked because I’m making an adult sweater and as the garment is quite big it was hard to frame properly. In fact, as it’s not a very portable project I had to find something smaller to occupy myself while waiting for my friends in the car the other day.
I’ve started a new pair of socks using some of the yarn that I bought at Lidl’s some time ago. I wrote about this type of sock yarn here. I’ve been wearing and testing that pair of socks and after three washes I can report that they haven’t shrank at all but I do find them a bit on the small side.
I decided therefore to cast on 64 rather than 60 stitches. It's not a massive difference but from what I've read you do need a bit of negative ease, ie socks need to be a bit snug initially because regular washing and wear will stretch them a bit.
The yarn is also 75% wool and 25% nylon as per most sock yarns. I’m using my (only) pair of size 2.5mm double pointed needles. Having to carry those short needles and just one yarn ball makes socks a very portable type of project when on the go. It’s not an ideal type of project all the time though because the needles are difficult to find in the car when accidentally dropped.

Above you can see a photo of the yarn ball. I was very curious to find out whether or not it was going to be just stripes or patches of colour.

As you can see above I happened to start on a dark section of the yarn which was by accident rather than design. I still haven’t found the repeat of that dark section. If I do, I’ll try to start the second sock around the same area to have matching socks. So far the colours have mostly been a combination of cream and brown which is reminiscent of latte.
I now have two projects on the go but I’m keen to finish the sweater first.
