Why Muslim World Media Silent on Burma Attacks?

Killings of Muslims in Burma increases daily and people are talking about it over social media. Issue that most people realize and talk about is total absence of this subject in broadcasting news. Why are the media houses keeping silence around this issue? Not only the western world but also the Muslim countries are silent where media even made the minor issue a big chaos for higher viewership. Merciless killings of Burmese Muslims by livid Buddhist rabbles and the Burmese Army are breath taking. Reports indicate that more than 20,000 Muslims have been killed this month in Myanmar, either by the police, army or Buddhist extremists.

Killings began when 10 Muslims were burned alive in a bus after the news of gang raped Buddhist woman, who unfortunately died from the injuries. The Burmese army is charged with burning more than 500 villages. The United Nations and human right agencies apparently have no role to play in the ongoing massacre. Questions are being raised by Muslim activists and organisations on the role of human rights organizations and the United Nations for complete ignorance and silence on the matter. Same could be said for most of the Muslim world, which stands untouched by genocide over Muslims.

Ethnic unrest has been sparkling in Burma for over a century now, Muslims are a minority without any civil rights at all. Muslims didn’t get full citizenship in Burma, and the closest Muslim country, Bangladesh wouldn’t accept them as refugees. Other minority groups as Christians are also not recognized in Burma. There are clear violations of human rights in Burma when it comes to minorities.

The role of UN is very important as the UN should come forward and put force on the Burmese government to grant Christian and Muslim minorities equal citizenship status as that which Buddhist citizens enjoy. There should be some solid moves from the side of government so as the majority should not destroy the minority’s rights. This leads to the peaceful Burma state and also protects the Muslims right over there. The Muslim countries should raise voice on the brutal killing of Muslims as well as media to help the needy Burmese Muslims and stop the innocent killings over there.
