Give the kids cryptocurrency

Give the kids their allowance in cryptocurrencies. If the kid have a smartphone, just install a mobile wallet like Bread for Bitcoin or Loaf for Litecoin. These wallets makes it easy to write down the key on paper, so the coins wont be lost if the phone should get broken.

Make sure they get to spend some of the coins. Like buying toys on the net. It’s important that they feel they have something that can be spendt. Physical money is still important for smaller kids that needs to learn counting and decimals. For bigger kids it’s important to learn to save, and to loose money without loosing their head. You can give the kids bank accounts and set ut a savings account, or even buy stocks in their name. With cryptocurrency they can learn to set up their wallets themselves.

Economic history is fascinating, and can also be very helpful knowledge. The history of how paper money was introduced in europe contains lots of funny anecdotes. Why gold was used to back money as late as 1971, is fascinating. How do you make kids interested? Let them see what exiting times we are living in. Only 1 billion of the earths population have bank accounts and are able to borrow money. Nobody knows if cryptocurrencies is going to have some impact on the history of money. I just want to make sure all of my 4 kids will be there when it happens, and own some cryptocurrency.

As a kid I watched a french animated tv series called «Once upon a time... man». One of the episodes described tulip fever in the netherlands in 1630. Whats happening now with bitcoin is much bigger. Two of my kids are students, and frankly don’t seem to be that interested in bitcoins. My youngest son still goes to kindergarden.
