Opened Up A Joint Account @millers For The Entire Family To Pitch In!

in #kids7 years ago (edited)

Having maybe learned a thing or two from some of the people that I am following here on Steemit, note: “FOLLOWING” not stalking, just reading up on their posts, looking at how things are done by them, what all techniques they use and so on, I have come to one conclusion as to how to set things up for myself here and in my case in conjunction with my wife and eldest son.

There are six of us in total in our household, my wife, our four kids and myself. So it’s not all that easy to come across something out there where all of us can get involved.

Knowing that minors (kids under 18) are on other social networks the idea came up in one conversation that we should look at setting up accounts for our kids.

So far to date they have nagged Sylvia (their mum) to post things up for them, like the “We’re going to have a Birthday party at Bowlarama” and so on. Which Sylvia did with pleasure as they have shown an interest in what she is doing and they too want to be a part of it.

Now this all seemed to be a fantastic idea at first. Better they be here than on some other places, HOWEVER, when I asked a few people for their thoughts on this topic, it was rather disturbing to hear that there are people posting things here that are not for minors, so after finding that out I figured that this maybe isn’t the best idea to give them accounts of their own and let them do their own thing without parental supervision.

So, what do we do? The kids want to be “grownups”, they want to be doing what mum, dad and their older brother are doing, but we as parents can not let it happen as we want only what is best for our kids. Fear of “bad” people on this earth is a constant thing in the back of every persons mind, let alone parents mind.

So, the question stood, What to do to make it all work and to let the kids participate in things that we are doing, to help them become a part of our lives here on Steemit in the best and safest possible way?

So we have come up with the following plan!

@sylviamiller their mum shall as up to now, post on their behalf, so the kids can do their “writing” (posts) give them to mum and have mum post them up for them.

This way we know that an adult is the person posting and not a minor, so there is no question as far as that goes.

But how does this then cover the “We want it to be ours” factor for the kinder?

Well, we’ve registered @millers !

That is right, a joint account, where we shall all pitch in with the Steem Power, to get it above 500 SP.

All the posts that the kids do shall be resteemed onto this profile, when we have an all in family thing to post we shall post it to this profile wall and I am looking at having a bot made up for us, that shall follow and upvote automatically instead of us, which shall make life a lot easier, as we can then know that we the Millers have already voted and each of us can still go ahead and individually/manually vote via our personal accounts on things that show up in our feeds. So yes, double the votes coming from us!

I think that is GREAT NEWS!

PS. I learned this from a person who has to date supported us tremendously and not just with votes, but with good sound advice and support. He knows who he is!

The part that makes this more so our kids profile is not just the facts that I have stated above, it shall serve as a “Piggy Bank” account for our kids.

Everything that @sylviamiller makes on the posts that she puts up for our kids shall be put into this accounts wallet. Hence one day when they get to the age where they can open up their very own accounts here, we just transfer their one third of the figure here onto their profile, get them to pitch in with a fair and equal amount in the SP on @millers and hence keeping this profile a continuation of everything it was set up for.

So there we have it, where there is a will, there is a way!

Some may say “Why not let them open up an account for themselves?”

This is our choice as parents, we don’t want to do anything that may one day put a frown on their faces. I don’t know the exact policy on the topic, so better safe than sorry in that aspect also. Nothing worse than giving something to a child only to “snatch it back from them”.

Plus, this way it is a joint effort, we are all pitching in to ensuring that our kids become active Steemians who shall have a real nice little kickstart on their paths to becoming Steem Whales one day.

Now, we are still open to suggestions, before than what I go ahead and make the header for the @millers page.
Before than what our bot is written up for us and installed... let into action to make us behave like the professional people here who know a lot more about the computer scene and programming than what any of us in our household know.
So without any holding back, please feel free to say what you think.

This is a very “personal” thing to us, we want what is best for all of us, especially for our kids, so all good advice is always welcome.

Look forwards to reading your advice and suggestions on this topic.

Thank You for reading.

Great post and a great idea, wean the kids onto Steemit through a family account until they're old enough to go solo.
Nice one buddy

I think the way you planned it out is all good. The internet is too big a world to have our kids strolling without supervision. Bringing them onboard the steemit train at this early age is also a very welcome development. They are steemit whales in the making...
I do not have kids as of now, but permit me to resteem so my followers with kids can learn from this your strategy.

Please do, maybe they have some ideas and suggestions.

Thank you, SHARING IS CARING!

Awesome idea to do it as a family. I personally would wait to let kids on here. I'd love to learn this as a family but I can't even get my wife on here let alone the little ones (4 & 7). She loves to create crotchet things that I think would make for good content plus she is smart and articulate but unfortunately she doesn't even want to try, not even hear about it :( Ah well maybe one day the kids will be old enough to join in :)

Just an Idea.... why don't you post about everything she does and what the kids do and after a few months show her the results..... then see what she has to say!

Just thinking out aloud..... I had to fight the battle of "tweeting".... hmmmm addiction..... at its best!

Love this idea mate, sounds like a lot of thought and planning has gone into it. I really like the idea of the shared account to assist in safety on the internet. In this day and age that is incredibly important.

I really hope this works well for you all! Love it!
