i once had a kickstarter addition

in #kickstarter7 years ago

i hate to say it but for a time i had a bit of a kickstarter addition. when i got my money from twitter for the sale of my me.dm domain i went on this what can only be called a frenzied support mission to back a bunch of projects across the board from tech to art and beyond. i was addicted, i loved the idea and the concept but the reality i found out over the years was a little bit further from the truth, in fact, most of the time i was kinda disappointed with the comms and the output product, i learned a lot on top of what i already knew that sales teams were doing to the brand products i already loved in the mobile phone space -- it seems that we live in this culture where as long as we spin up the hype enough then fuck the planet and it's resources, they can have another go with v2, i kinda hate that.

built it right first time, make a good product, do the tests, tell people you are doing the tests, show them, get the certification that it's well made and not going to kill the planet way after we have gone, do the dust to dust survey, use quality products, don't take the easy route to get a faster buck, be the leader in your field because of your ethics not your sales. of course, you realise by now that i kinda got over that addition and stopped using kickstarted because of this, all hype and products that after a few years are often unsupported or failed to deliver on their intial promise, so much wasted time. always do your own research into the people behind the product!

i should add this goes for my own kickstarted that was funded for digital screens (the pi street) that i rolled out. i learned so much about people during that fund raising, the games people play, the manipulation, the need to be seen, the expectation vs reality and the additional costs that you don't consider when you go into any kind of fundraising. all i can say is try to communicate as much as possible and do live FAQ webcasts to fill in the gaps for questions that people have that way you always will maintain the level of support.

I am also looking for a job that makes sense.
