THE DANGERS OF KETO DIET
KETO DIETS FOR WEIGHT LOSS
While it seems Keto diet is all the rage right now, there are a few things you need to be made aware of.
The Keto diet was first used back in 1920 to treat epilepsy in children; and today is used aid in the treatment of various diseases. The Keto diet was not designed as a tool for weight loss.
The Keto Diet is high in healthy fats, adequate in protein and low in carbs (less than 10%) and forces the insulin hormone to shut off, which causes your body to burn fat (ketones) for fuel and not sugar (glucose).
A side effect of the Keto Diet is weight loss. This rapid weight loss happens due to a drop in water weight due to the fact that the Keto Diet has virtually no carbs.
There are several PROs for the Keto Diet, however, none of these have been proven by scientific research: They are:
Rapid weight loss
Improved performance
Anti-aging
Increased energy
Improved cognitive skills
Along with Pro’s there are some serious Con’s. They are:
Keto Flu (which may show up after being on the diet for 1 - 2 weeks). The symptoms are:
Headache
Dizziness
Fatigue
Insomnia
Irritability
Bad breath
Constipation
Nutrient Deficiency
Biotin (Vt B)
Vit K
Vit C
Vit D
Magnesium
Sustainability
While a ketogenic diet may offer novel medical treatments, and weight loss benefits in the short-term (i.e. a few months), the effects of this diet in healthy individuals are not yet backed by sufficient scientific evidence, meaning the long-term efficacy, safety and benefits are not yet known.
It’s best to do the Keto Diet under the supervision of your doctor.
