Vagabond is a South Korean drama series that differ a little bit from the two series that I made reviews about, namely, Healer (2014) and City Hunter (2015). I will talk about these differences later on as telling you about these differences may reveal some spoilers. Generally, however, Vagabond is bloodier than the two previous series and has a lot of gunfights and plot twists. I will tell you about my reactions and sentiments about the series in general later on but I'd warn you that like all of my reviews so far, revealing details about my reactions would reveal a lot of spoilers about the series. Thus, if you dislike spoilers, I recommend that you watch the series first if you'd like to know how I feel about it.

Quantitatively, however, I can rate my qualitative sentiments about the series like what I have done in my previous two film reviews.

My film rating for this series:

SPOILER ALERT: Sentiment and Reactions

The film has so many aspects and subtopics that I can comment but I'll select the top seven aspects that I'd want to highlight my sentiments and reactions about.

Hoon's Death

Hoon's death marked by the later on the discovered foul play by Go Hae-ri and Chal Dal-geon was very instrumental yet saddening in developing the progression of the series. I was also bothered at first and can't believe the unexpected tragedy they had to experience. However, Hoon's death, together with the death of the other people plane, later on, paved the path to revealing the covert wrongdoings of the John and Mark company.

Kim Woo-gi, Jerome, and Michael Almeida

These people are the ones involved in crashing the plane where Chal Da-geon's nephew was in. They did it mainly to falsely accuse Dynamic7 of the anomaly. However, their conspiracy was later on revealed by Chal Da-geon and friends. This is all started with Jerome left an "uncleaned footprint", he didn't expect that he was accidentally being recorded in the plane, and Chal Da-geon met him at the airport and saw him on Hoon's video coincidentally. Later on, Kim Woo-gi, the co-pilot of the plane, also revealed himself by a failed way to cipher their communications. In my opinion, this goes to show that some unexpected footprints of wrongdoings may be revealed by fate, at least that was how it was presented in the film.

Jessica's Lobbying and The Expose

Jessica's illegal lobbying, marked by several scandals and seduction acts, are later on exposed to the public and she was jailed for them. Thanks to the combined efforts of Chal Da-geon, Go Hae-ri, and other people at NIS, and also Edward Park, despite him being revealed as an antagonist way later in the film. The path to this revelation was perilous as they had to escape through deadly means, the attack at the embassy, escaping Morocco undetected, raging through incoming traffic, escaping attempted arrests by Jae-sik, and most of all the riot outside the court. Their perseverance led them to attaining their objectives which was to reveal Jessica's anomalies.

Revealing Samael's True Identity

For me, it was very unexpected that Samael's true identity becomes abruptly transparent at the end of the film. This happened when Cha Dal-geon saw Micky's tattoo and remembered that Jerome also had it and it then led to revealing Samael's true identity. This knowledge became very dangerous for him as when he admitted his knowledge to Edward Park, this led to a near death experience on which he was saved by Lily. I think Samael will play a huge role in Vagabond 2, if this series will continue to that new season.

Chal Da-Geon and Go Hae-ri

Chal Da-Geon and Go Hae-ri's relationship become stronger and stronger through the film despite some initial heat between them in the beginning. Their struggles, together, made their relationship more intact as they share the common goal of revealing more about the conspiracies going around which thankfully led to the arrest of Jessica. Later on, when Samael's true involvement in the plane crash was revealed, they had to separate ways for their safety. I think this is really intended in the film and it will also form a huge role in making Vagabond 2 look more intense since Chal Da-geon may be surprised to see Go Hae-ri working with Jessica.

The NIS: Gi Tae-ung, Kang Joo-chul, and Min Jae-sik

The NIS boys Gi Tae-ung, Kang Joo-chul, and Min Jae-sik were really interesting to watch. Their skirmish in the story and the ping pong of holding the ball of who runs the NIS becomes very engaging to watch as they employ crazy yet very clever tactics to outsmart each other. Af first it was Min Jae-sik who holds the ball, later on it was Kang Joo-chul... at the end, Min Jae-sik's conspiracy was then revealed and NIS was placed back to proper hands. I wish these people will also continue the fight on Vagabond 2. Both Min Jae-sik and Kang-Joo-chul would make Vagabond 2 very interesting to watch since they really were very notable characters from Vagabond 1. Gi Tae-ung is a very notable character, too, in a sense that his initial conviction to just follow orders blindly was changed after a lot of struggles that led him to develop his character and question his loyalty even more.

What about you? What are your sentiments and reaction about the series?
