The judo: The Last breath of the samurai
In Japan of the XIX century the samurai culture begins to fall into decadence due to new political decisions that looked for a new development and this progress entailed to forget the old forms like the samurai culture. Although this culture didn’t die, different styles of combat used by the ancient samurai still remains as martial arts schools ( jujitsu,Yawara, Toride, Hakuda, Shuhaka). These schools were used as divulgation for its philosophies and training methods because did not were use anymore as learnings for the ancient nippon warriors.
A young educator, practicant fo the jiu-jitsu, perhaps a little weakly wanted to create a martial art with a more pedagogical orientation for a continuous learning, he wanted to make something that transcends the world of the education for that time. Having a clear objective, he started to study different styles of martial arts ( Jiu Jitsu, Kamiuchi, Taijutsu) collecting a big quantity of techniques and throwing up others that he considered inconvenient due to its consequences to the human body (these techniques were mostly locks of knee and ankle) he succeeded to create a new combat system which purpose was martial-philosophical, sporting and pedagogical.
Principle of non-resistance
“Softness way” is the meaning of the judo explaining it’s way of combat and how to afront anything ( in every aspect of life) if the martial aspect it’s understood as the principle of victory to the opponent through projection (technique to make the opponent fall to the floor without using punches or kicks) approaching the weight of the enemy against him and on self favor. A brief story that express the philosophy of judo tells: “An old medic japanese man walks through the garden on winter watching the branches of the trees realized that the thicker ones got broke for the weight and the skinnier ones but more flexible got bended letting the snowfall and recovering its original position”. So borns the principle of the jiu-jitsu that is taken by the judo but since a perspective more educative and sporting, looking for bring down the opponent with his own weight and energy. The judo is a martial art of gripping, this means that is not valid to use kicks or punches but to bring down the adversary through projections or submissions.
