Gideon, judge of Israel: I will not rule over you, nor will my son rule over you. The LORD will rule over you. Judges 8:23

The Book of Judges in the Bible recounts the extraordinary actions of Gideon, judge and leader of Israel during the period known as the aristocracy of judges, an institution created by the prophet Moses during the journey to Canaan.
The Bible relates that after the rule of Barak and Deborah as Judges of Israel, the Israelites did what was evil in the eyes of the Lord and that was the reason of why they fell under the oppression of the Midianites. The Israelites cried out to God and the Lord raised up Gideon as judge of Israel to save his people.
Gideon was a God-fearing man and an extraordinary warrior, for his military actions he can be compared to the Spartan generals, because Gideon did not trust in numbers, which at first glance seems to be the most important thing, but instead in God, his determination to triumph, and the quality of the warriors who accompanied him into battle. With a very small army, around 300 men, he achieved an important victory by subduing the nations coming from the east of the Jordan River that were devastating Israel.
Gideon for this and the signs that God gave him was mentioned by the apostle Paul among the most illustrious men of the nation Israel, his memory reached the times of the early Church as an example to follow and imitate: "I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson and Jephthah, about David and Samuel and the prophets" Hebrews 11:32.
After finishing his great military campaign, Gideon was honored with honors, but he alone gave glory to his God, relates the Book of Judges:
"The Israelites said to Gideon, ´Rule over us—you, your son and your grandson—because you have saved us from the hand of Midian.´
But Gideon told them, ´I will not rule over you, nor will my son rule over you. The LORD will rule over you.´" Judges 8:22-23.
Gideon's life is a reminder that there is no greater blessing to man than the gift of fear of God (constancy, firmness, and devotion).
