JOMO!!!

in #joy7 years ago (edited)

While browsing the internet, I stumbled on this picture and it got me thinking really deep and hard. (I tend to do that a lot.)
Why should I or someone be joyful for missing out? What chill should I have because I missed out of something? Is that statement really going to be a thing?

Well, you may be wondering what the hell is JOMO. Simple, "Joy of Missing Out."
There should be joy in everything we do and with the internet of things helping us make sense of what is happening and what will happen in the future, innovations that will help us grasp are needed and JOMO is it.

Do I have a JOMO story?

I do have couple of JOMO stories, So I will briefly share just 2.
I remember when the MMM frenzy was at an ATH in Nigeria, everyone I know was into it and they were making so much money that their statuses changed. For some sick and weird reasons, I didn't participate and never had a rethink as to if I should.
I knew it was a pyramid scheme because, there was the assurance that I will get double my funds, but there was no explanation of where the funds will come from after the first round. Many took the scheme as their occupation, (just as many of us take Steemit now). Guiders became gods amongst men and the followers worshiped in spirit and in truth. Mavrodi held a place in the hearts of so many that, if you are not on MMM, you are missing out.
FOMO set in and many jumped in just at the end of the scheme. And, it was a wrap.

Another JOMO Story.
I also remember when it was time to get a career after school, my mates were so desperate that they settled for Government paid jobs, some joined the Police force, Customs and Immigration services, but I didn't because I was so sure I was not cut out for taking whatever comes. Although, I must confess that, not taking whatever comes caused me. I was broke and practically a nonentity.
Year down the line, the story kinda is tilting my way as I am really happy being who I am and those moments of stress helped me seek the right things to do.

Looking back now and seeing those Guiders now looking down whenever they are asked "how far?" makes me so very thankful for missing out on that. Had I joined, I would have taken it so seriously because when I believe in something, I give it my all.
I also look at my friends who opted for the easy way by taking up employements they never dreamed of taking and most of them are mostly unhappy and unfufiled. One of them recently resigned and backed his bags and embarked on a Sahara trip to Libya onward Italy. ( I have no idea if he made it though.)

I Feel Blessed!

My PoV.

Missing out on some of life's important moments has its perk. It may feel bad, but there always is some happy place. The recent wave of crypto and the need to jump in early on certain transaction has seen so many jump into fire all in a bid to make it quick.
I believe there are things we are not supposed to have no matter how good they appear and there are also those things we must have no matter how dirty they appear.
Knowing what works and what will, is the first step to knowing if you are going to have a FOMO or JOMO moment.

As life is unpredictable so will we have FOMOs and JOMOs. We should not see ourselves as missing out when we cannot get on somethings. We may struggle so hard only to end up not getting it; and we never lift up a finger and we get it.

Moments will always be a part of our lives and it is left to be seen if they will be FOMOs or JOMOs.

Well written and thoughtful.
I learned something here, also have some similar stories but not so much on mmm lol!

Thanks for reading and stay awesome!

It not about who gets there first but about who get there fulfilled and accomplished. I also have my JOMO stories. One of them is about how i almost cried my life out because i couldn't gain admission into the my preferred institution for five year i wrote jamb, passed but no admission. My friends with lower scores gained admission before me. The thoughts of this broke my heart. A friend of mine encouraged me to apply for another school so i did and just one sitting i gained admission in this present institution. My friends that gained admission in to that school i almost to kill myself for are stocked because the school has lot of internal issues. Even now that school is still on strike for issues i can't tell. This is my 3rd year in the university and some of them are in their 3rd year too. I have even gone ahead of some. This is my JOMO in gaining admission into that particular school.
Thanks @ejemai for this wonderful post.

Thanks for reading and i must say, I love your JOMO story. Lots of people have that exact same issues with Jamb. I know a guy who wrote Jamb 6 times and was never able to get into the University, after failing on the 6th time, someone advised him to try the polytechnic, he did and today, he runs a very thriving engineering company in Lagos and employs University graduates.
I believe FOMOs are necessary sometimes so we get what is good for us.
Stay awesome!

Wow... Thank you sir.

I had to read this when I came across it. It's really deep especially the employment competition of saying how far and all the rest.
Am happy that everything turned out for you good

Thanks for reading and stay awesome!

Guiders became gods amongst men and the followers worshiped in spirit and in truth.

@ejemai this is so hilarious.. By the time i made up my mind to join mmm, it crashed.. I slept like a baby..

Good for you, you would have been so unhappy.
Stay awesome!

When I read this

One of them recently resigned and backed his bags and embarked on a Sahara trip to Libya onward Italy. ( I have no idea if he made it though.)
I really wished he made it to his destination.

And one can only say a job welldone after explaining your two JOMO stories.
It carried lessons that everyone must learn from.
Not all that glitter is gold.
Thanks for the impactful JOMO message.
Stay blessed @ejemai

Thanks for finding it interesting.
Stay awesome!

' Knowing what works and will make the difference in your life is the first step to knowing if you are a JOMO moment.'

some people never understand how i am able to find a funny side to everything that goes wrong. i know that is life, never predictable, always with the ups and the downs. i did MMM and i lost a lot of money when the scheme finally died, i didn't stop to think i was so broke at the time and the scheme was a gold mine. i even forced my mother to participate all because i wanted the referral bonus and luckily for me i pulled her money out a few days before the first freeze. she would have skinned me alive because she never wanted to join.

so right now, i don't rush into things and i don't feel so downcast anymore when i miss out on somethings, i just find the joy and the upside.

thank you for always making a good post out of the little things.

I am glad you cashed out your mum's money. It was a rave back then MMM and I still wonder how come I never saw it as being okay to participate. I guess it was that way to give me my own JOMO.
Stay awesome!

This is really deep
The second story touched me and I seem to be in that shoe too...
My friends so much believe in government paid jobs but I am so enthused with creating something and utilizing my potentials.
I believe entrepreneurship/money making venture devoid of government employment is a art and skill too..
The guy that embarked on Libya trip really was frustrated

The process of getting from one place to the other trying to make a living is an art in itself and it takes a dedicated person to stay the cause. When you are self aware, you will see no distance to far to cover.
Stay awesome!

Hehe! Very hilarious and joyful post .Thanks for sharing boss, i learnt a few things like appreciation of life as it comes by

Thanks and stay awesome!

Best read all day already! the title captured my attention as i wondered what JOMO could mean. Who knew i'd be finding something as enlightening as this one. Pure frigging Gold sir, this.!

Thanks for reading and stay frigging awesome!

HELLO @ejemai

I regularly have FOMO, scared that everyone will take that "big risk", that "big leap" and leave me behind to gather dust. I didn't fall for the MMM thing though-mostly because I was dead broke then and wasn't keen on borrowing.

So, I have a question...

How can I balance the FOMO with taking risks?

Thank you.

It's okay to have FOMOs but is is okay to look towards the JOMOs of life. Worrying that someone will get there first is not going to change the outcome, it is what it is. Be positive, stay on your grind and do not give up.
Stay awesome!
