Christ Alone in Our Hearts by Faith Alone A Poem Inspired by Ephesians 3:17-21 & Psalm 119:165
Christ Alone in Our Hearts by Faith Alone
That Christ may in our hearts abide,
A flame unquenched, our faithful guide,
Transforming all our wayward thought
To love Him who our Souls doth bought
Not in our strength alone we grow,
Nor by our thoughts, nor what we know,
But by Thy Word that softly speaks,
To humbled hearts, to souls made meek.
The milk first given, Thy word so pure,
Did once our infant faith secure;
Yet must we rise from simple creed,
And labor for the meat we need.
For meat is given not with ease,
Nor found among the idle breeze,
But wrought by hands that toil and pray,
And seek Thy truth both night and day.
Oh, let Thine light shine forth from me!
No curtain drawn, that all might see.
That others too may glimpse His grace,
Reflected bright upon my face.
A city high upon the hill,
That beckons weary hearts, be still;
A temple where His voice is heard,
A dwelling filled with holy Word.
Shall we not walk where He hath led?
And break the bread as He hath said?
No selfish feast, no hoarded store,
But love that gives and gives yet more.
And in the silence He may come,
As once outside the Garden tomb
To whisper peace, to bid faith rise,
And lift the gaze to Resurection’s prize.
Oh saint, be rooted firm in love!
No storm below, no wind above
Can tear thee from the place He sows,
Where light is sown and gladness grows.
So stand ye steadfast, never wane,
Though trials press and sorrows strain,
Till all is full, till shadows cease,
And Christ, our life, Rules all in Peace.
