Veronica Campbell-was born in a very poor family in the city of Trelawny, where they are also other great figures of world athletics as have been Olympic Usain Bolt, the American athlete Sanya Richards-Ross and the Canadian Ben Johnson.

Her life as a child was marked by extreme poverty where her parents, who were farmers, struggled to feed and educate their ten children.

Her talent was discovered by one of her physical education teachers by observing how she won all competitions, even competing with boys.

Already in elementary school his teachers stressed that he owned a great talent and recommended that he go to the high school known as the Factory of Sprinters, Camperdown High School.

There she realized that with work and effort she would obtain great results, without imagining what life would have planned for her life.

Later he would obtain scholarships to go to study at the University of Kansas in the United States.

Already in the year 2000 at the Sydney Olympics the silver medal was raised with the Jamaica team of the 4x100 relay, with only 18 years of age, which would be the starting point of his successful career as a sprinter.

In the Olympic games of Athens he manages to keep the gold medal in the test of the 200 flat meters and in the 4x100 relay with the team of Jamaica and the bronze medal in the test of 100 flat meters.

Four years later he would repeat the victory in the 200 meters, but unfortunately in the 4x100 relay test they were disqualified by the fall of the testimony in one of the passes.

Nice one. Goes to show that difficult upbringings do not define or constrain ones ability to chase bigger dreams that people may have thought were unattainable.

Sports is definitely an important aspect of Jamaican culture. Thanks for bringing this for us to enjoy.
