¿Do you know where the name "Jamaica" comes from?

Well, it is an indigenous word whose meaning is "the land of wood and water."

And the typical national dish is cod. There are some breads that are also typical of this place, such as roti, a crushed bread made by Aboriginal people, and bammy, it is a fried bread that is shaped like a round cake.

Reggae music was born in Jamaica and began among the population of African origin. The main singer of "reggae" was Bob Marley and there are those who say that this musical style began with him.

Did you know that Henry Morgan was based in Kingston Bay and was one of the most famous pirates in the area that ravaged the regions of Panama, Cuba and Maracaibo.

But the best thing is that Jacques de Sores, El Olonés and even Blackbeard would seem like crib children if we stick to the real stories or not that about Henry Morgan have been written, because apart from being in a single landowner, corsair, pirate, smuggler, slaver, politician, rustler, lieutenant governor of Jamaica and knight of the English crown, everything indicates that he was more meander than they say.

*Jamaica was first a Spanish colony and then an English colony, until on August 6, 1962, it gained independence. In fact, it was the first Caribbean country to proclaim itself independent. It is also the third largest island in the entire Caribbean, behind Cuba and Spain.

Jamaica has won many Olympic medals. Jamaican Usain Bolt has won three Olympic medals and has been chosen three times as the fastest runner on earth

But the best thing is that Jamaica was the first country in America where a railroad was built, in fact, Jamaicans did it before Americans.

One thing that has caught my attention is that in Jamaica you will find more churches per square mile than in any other Christian country in the world.

Well I hope you are curious that at least I did not know, it suits you

You had me until this. Canada, the USA, and Cuba beat Jamaica to Railways.

Nah bro, he is right.... not only railways but we have schools , churches, pubs and structures here older than both Canada and America (as countries) from English and Spanish rule. Like in England. As for railways we had second after only Canada.

Rail transport in Jamaica
The Railways of Jamaica, constructed from 1845, were the second British Colony after Canada's Champlain and St. Lawrence Railroad of 1836 to receive a railway system. Construction started only twenty years after George Stephenson's Stockton and Darlington Railway commenced operations in the United Kingdom. The public passenger railway service in Jamaica, which was closed in October 1992, had a brief revival in 2011 only to be closed once again in August 2012. The Parliament of Jamaica debate leading towards a revival under a public joint venture corporation proposed with an offshore partner.
