I remember that, when I was a child, one of the things I most hated was the long car trips; journeys in which I was regularly involved by my parents. My brother was a few years younger than me, and it was still too young to keep me company. So I spent hours looking out the window, playing, as many children do, imagining shaping the clouds.

As we grow up we tend to forget these precious childhood friends, and clouds lose importance. They even become something to be looked at with apprehension, if not with real fear. They create traffic problems, they ruin the out-of-town trips… Then there are those times when we say goodbye with a smile, when with a nice downpour dilute the great heat of the summer months.
But in short, it cannot be denied that clouds do not have a great fame among adults.

Yet, there are situations in which clouds are able to create unique play of light, giving life and changing landscapes that otherwise would appear completely different and giving us, at least for a few moments, the possibility of returning children; the opportunity to sit down for a moment, and observe the sky, imagining, once again, to give them a shape.

Ricordo che, quando ero bambino, una delle cose che più odiavo erano i lunghi viaggi in macchina; viaggi in cui mi trovavo regolarmente coinvolto dai miei genitori. Mio fratello aveva qualche anno meno di me, ed era ancora troppo piccolo per potermi tenere davvero compagnia. Così passavo le ore guardando fuori dal finestrino, giocando, come fanno tanti bambini, a immaginare di dar forma alle nuvole.

Crescendo si tende a dimenticare queste preziose amiche d’infanzia, e le nuvole perdono importanza. Diventano addirittura un qualche cosa da guardare con apprensione, se non con timore vero e proprio. Creano problemi al traffico, ci rovinano le gite fuori porta… Per non parlare di quando ci ammaccano le auto. Poi ci sono quelle volte in cui le salutiamo con un sorriso, quando con un bell’acquazzone stemperano il grande caldo dei mesi estivi.
Ma insomma, non si può negare che le nuvole non godano di grande fama tra gli adulti.

Eppure, ci sono situazioni in cui le nuvole sono in grado di creare giochi di luce unici, dando vita e modificando paesaggi che altrimenti apparirebbero completamente diversi e regalandoci, almeno per qualche istante, la possibilità di tornare bambini; l’opportunità di sederci un attimo, e osservare il cielo immaginando, ancora una volta, di dar loro una forma.
