Bestiarius manga (ENG-ITA)

Here I am with another appointment regarding the manga read by myself. Today I would like to talk about a manga called Bestiarius written and drawn by Masasumi Kakizaki released in Italy in conjunction with the Lucca Comics & Games of 2014.The latin term bestiarius meant those men who fought against wild beasts or forced as slaves or as free men who wanted get money, glory or whatever. They are not to be confused with gladiators because they fought against other humans.

The comic is set in ancient Rome in the year 70 AD and the Empire is expanding its borders, the world is not only inhabited by humans, but there are other creatures such as the wyverns who try to fight the Empire, under penalty of extinction. In fact in this manga the Emperor is not the portrait of goodness nor of empathy towards other species. The first volume contains two autoconclusive stories about Fin and Durandal. The first is an orphan of war, his father was a soldier who fell against the wyverns and more precisely against Durandal who promised to the dying man to report to his son, if he ever met him, that he was died with honor in battle. Obviously the two will meet and Durandal will take care of the young Fin as if he were his son ... They all lived happily ever after? Of course not! The emperor Domitian will not take long to put the sticks between the two ... But I do not want to tell you more about the first story.

The second one speaks of two non-blood brothers named Taros who is a minotaur and the younger Zeno who is a human. Why should a human have a minotaur as his brother? The boy was offered as a tribute to Taros and father, these contrary to what all humans believed were not monsters and they did not eat children or things like that and took care of the boy. The situation will change drastically when the Roman Empire attacks their village, the two brothers will find themselves in Rome having to fight in the arenas. Taros is totally incapable of fighting while Zeno will find himself a great fighter. Even in this case I will not tell you more ...
I like this manga for many reasons. The first are the drawings, they are really very accurate and, in my opinion, they express a lot. The ancient Rome is very well represented and there are more fantasy elements that I always like and I never get fed up, but without running into ridicule or "Ahhh but I've already seen, what a bore!" Another interesting element is the story of the autoconclusive stories, if you do not like manga with endless stories, this is the one for you, a few pages and the story ends!

Bestiarius does not have a specific deadline, I'll explain better: in Italy it is possible to go out every six months / a year, the author has been clear right away: the realization of this manga is and will be very slow, so do not rush!
To date in Italy 4 tankobon have come out and the fifth is coming.

Ciao Steemians!

Eccomi qui con un altro appuntamento riguardante i manga da me letti. Oggi vorrei parlarvi di un manga intitolato Bestiarius scritto e disegnato Masasumi Kakizaki uscito in Italia in concomitanza del Lucca Comics&Games del 2014. Con il termine bestiarius si intendevo quegli uomini che combattevano contro le bestie feroci o perchè costretti in quanto schiavi o da uomini liberi che volevano ottenere denaro, gloria o quant'altro. Essi non sono da confondere con i gladiatori perchè questi ultimi combattevano contro altri esseri umani.

Il fumetto è ambientato nell'antica Roma nell'anno 70 d.C e l'Impero sta espandendo i suoi confini, il mondo non è abitato solamente da essere umani, ma esistono altre creature come le Viverne che cercano di combattere l'Impero, pena l'estinzione. Infatti in questo manga l'Imperatore non è il ritratto della bontà e neanche dell'empatia verso altre specie. Il primo volume contiene due storie autoconclusive che parlano di Fin e Durandal. Il primo è un orfano di guerra, il padre infatti, era un soldato caduto contro le viverne e più precisamente morì per mano di Durandal un fiero guerriero viverna che promise all'uomo morente di riferire al figlio, se mai lo avesse incontrato, che era morto con onore in battaglia. Ovviamente i due si incontreranno e Durandal si occuperà del giovane Fin come fosse suo figlio... Vissero tutti felici e contenti? Certo che no! L'imperatore Domiziano non ci metterà molto a mettere i bastoni fra i due... Ma non vi voglio raccontare di più sulla prima storia.

La seconda parla di due fratelli non di sangue di nome Taros che è un minotauro e il minore Zeno che invece è un umano. Perchè un umano dovrebbe avere come fratello un minotauro? Il ragazzo era stato offerto come tributo a Taros e padre, questi contrariamente a quello che tutti gli umani credevano non erano mostri non mangiavano bambini o cose simili e accudirono il ragazzo. La situazione cambierà drasticamente quando l'Impero Romano attaccherà il loro villaggio, i due fratelli si troveranno a Roma a dover combattere nelle arene. Taros è totalmente incapace di combattere mentre invece Zeno si scoprirà essere un ottimo combattente. Anche in questo caso non vi racconterò di più...
Questo manga mi piace molto per tante ragioni. La prima sono i disegni, sono veramente molto accurati e, a mio avviso, esprimono molto. L'antica Roma è rappresentata molto bene e in più sono presenti gli elementi fantasy che mi piacciono sempre e non mi stufano mai, senza però scadere nel ridicolo o nel “Ahhh ma l'ho già visto, che noia!” Un altro elemento interessante è quello delle storie autoconclusive, se non vi piacciono i manga con storie interminabili, questo è quello che fa per voi, poche pagine e la storia finisce!

Bestiarius non ha una scadenza precisa, mi spiego meglio: in Italia è possibile che esca ogni sei mesi/ un anno, l'autore è stato chiaro fin da subito: la realizzazione di questo manga è e sarà molto lenta, quindi non abbiate fretta!
Ad oggi in Italia sono usciti 4 tankobon e il quinto è in arrivo.
