Succulents plants: Lithops, un bellissimo genere.

Grande sorpresa questo pomeriggio! Si, perché l'apertura di questi fiori avviene generalmente nelle ore pomeridiane.

Stiamo parlando dei Lithops, simpatiche piante grasse che hanno una grande storia evolutiva alle spalle.
Rappresentano il mimetismo perfetto vegetale, piante che tramite la loro forma, colorazione e le loro migliaia di screziature diverse, si sono mimetizzate perfettamente con le rocce e pietre circostanti, diverse in habitat e habitat. Il colore dei Lithops quindi, ci darà un'idea del colore delle rocce circostanti del suo habitat naturale.

Durante il periodo di riposo, le piccole piante si ritirano nel terreno perdendo turgore nelle grandi foglie carnose, scomparendo tra la sabbia e rocce, di conseguenza le piante sono meno esposte ai raggi solari. Questo effetto "fisarmonica" permetterà loro di "riemergere" durante il periodo autunnale con le prime piogge (che ripristineranno il turgore cellulare) per mettere in mostra le loro bellissime fioriture ed essere impollinati (sono piante auto sterili).

Questa è un grande capacità di adattamento per un territorio cosi ostile, come le zone semi-desertiche della namibia e SudAfrica, luoghi dove è possibile osservare i Lithops natura.

We are talking about the Lithops, nice succulent plants that have a great evolutionary history behind them.
They represent the perfect vegetal mimicry, plants that through their shape, coloration and their thousands of different streaks, are perfectly camouflaged with the surrounding rocks and stones, different in habitat and habitat. The color of the Lithops therefore, will give us an idea of ​​the color of the surrounding rocks of its natural habitat.

During the resting period, the small plants withdraw into the soil losing turgidity in the large fleshy leaves, disappearing between the sand and rocks, consequently the plants are less exposed to sunlight. This "accordion" effect will allow them to "re-emerge" during the autumn with the first rains (which will restore cellular turgidity) to show off their beautiful blooms and be pollinated (they are self-sterile plants).

This is a great ability to adapt to such a hostile territory, such as the semi-desert areas of Namibia and South Africa, places where it is possible to observe the Lithops nature.

Subito dopo la fioritura è bene sospendere completamente le innaffiature. In questo periodo i Lithops effettuano la loro "muta" emettendo due nuove foglie centrali che andranno a sostituire le precedenti. Possiamo riprendere le innaffiature soltanto quando le vecchie foglie si saranno ormai seccate, quindi verso aprile/maggio.

Qui potete vedere due fioriture, una attuale ed una ormai passata, dove i petali ormai secchi sembrano somigliare a piccoli stigmi di zafferano.

Dato l'apparato radicale abbastanza fittonante e quindi sviluppato in profondità e l'esigenza di tenere il substrato più drenante e asciutto possibile, si consiglia una coltivazione in vasi abbastanza piccoli di 7/10 cm e piuttosto profondi invece che larghi.
