What a stupid title for an article.

“I’ve Been Under Bombardment. There Must Be a Cease-Fire in Gaza.”

Yeah, well, I’ve been under bombardment too, and I say there must NOT be a cease-fire in Gaza – not until Hamas is defeated or surrenders.

Why?

  1. Because Hamas is committed to the killing of Israelis and to the destruction of Israel;

  2. Because, on October 7th, Hamas launched a murderous attack on Israeli civilians in the hope of fulfilling that commitment; and

  3. Because a cease-fire or a truce – a "hudna" in Arabic – is, for Hamas, simply an opportunity to regroup and re-arm. A cease-fire is not about a road to peace for Hamas. It’s about recovering from the damage inflicted by Israel and preparing for the battle to come, the next round of warfare.

Moreover, a cease-fire, in and of itself, does not address the cause of the war or create a pathway to end the killing. At most, it's simply a break. A pause. A time-out. A time when people are busy planning, preparing, and re-arming -- getting ready to kill again, perhaps in greater numbers, as soon as the cease-fire ends.
