Don’t buy the new iPhone X, 8 or 8 Plus
A breathtaking new OLED display, FaceID, a stunning camera, intelligent photography features and the all-inspiring animojis make the new range of Apple devices stand out from the crowd. But of course, innovation comes at a price and with the flagship iPhone X costing nearly £1000, it’s worth considering an insurance package to protect your device from the unexpected.

By far the most common (and usually the most costly) iPhone repair involves replacing the screen. But if you thought Apple screen replacements were expensive for the current generation devices, the new iPhone X introduces the highly sought after Super Retina OLED display which could significantly raise the price tag for replacing a cracked screen.
While you might be tempted to wear your iPhone nude making the most of its perfectly rounded corners and gorgeous glass design, sometimes even ‘the most durable glass ever in a smartphone’ is prone to cracks. If ever you find yourself to be the victim of accidental screen damage, you should know that Apple’s standard warranty does not cover your repair — no surprises there. Luckily for us, Apple has already quietly updated the cost of replacing damaged screens for the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus.

It’s interesting to point out that while there is no price difference between screen replacements for the iPhone 7, 7 Plus and the new iPhone 8 line, the pricing for ‘other damages’ (which include any additional faults to the phone likely as a result of dropping your device on a hard surface for example) is £30 and respectively £50 more expensive.
With all this in mind and considering the fact that the Super Retina display is a completely new technology for the iPhone range, how much do you think it would cost to repair a cracked screen at the Apple store? Whatever the price tag Apple decides on, figures around the £200 range are not far fetched. This pushes many of us (including myself) to consider device insurance for our precious handsets, because even if you were to make just a single claim per year, paying for insurance would still work out cheaper than paying for the cost of the repair upfront.
Most of us buy our phones through our carrier network, which generally include optional insurance policies to suit all needs. But if you happen to use the Revolut app, you should know that we’ve also launched our very own device insurance plan. Here’s how the rates compare to standard network providers:

So if you’re considering having your brand new iPhone insured with your network provider, you might in fact be missing out on a better deal if you’re a Revolut user.
