Why IPFS Sucks (anonymity and persistence)
Well, it doesn't suck like in sucks more than anything that has ever sucked before, but it sucks if you're looking for the final solution.
IPFS is a great step forward, but it's critical to know a few things about it and know why we're still not "there" yet.
- IPFS is not anonymous.
- content will be taken down if there is low interest, just like a torrent without seeds.
We should aim for a network which is anonymous, where you can view and share stuff and be certain that you're anonymous. In some countries, they chop off your balls for viewing certain content.
We should build on GNUnet, which is a totally anonymous network.
We should also build on the blockchain, by actually using the blockchain to store data, like messaging and audio/video.
Storing data on the blockchain itself is not practical today, but it is part of the final solution.
Nice post you flower me please
the blockchain is inefficient for storing data, hence why you would use a merkle dag like IPFS. Why not use blockchain in conjunction with IPFS? use smart contracts for hashing data into IPFS and build a DAPP as a user interface between the two systems..
