The day our car, coffee machine, smartwatch and shower will need an IP address, IPv4 will have run out. It "only" supports 4 billion IPs worldwide.

Instead, we will be using IPv6. Instead of https://www.linkedin.com/redir/invalid-link-page?url=192%2e168%2e1%2e1 it can look like: fe80::5987:1e4:c90d:e30c%9

So what does this mean for your toaster, car and shower to be connected to the internet? Well, for once you don't have to worry about running out of IPs. IPv6 supports 2/128 addresses. Giving you a total of: 340,282,366,920,938,463,463,374,607,431,768,211,456 addresses.

According to one website you'd read it like:

Three hundred and forty undecillion, two hundred and eighty-two decillion, three hundred and sixty-six nonillion, nine hundred and twenty octillion, nine hundred and thirty-eight septillion, four hundred and sixty-three sextillion, four hundred and sixty-three quintillion, three hundred and seventy-four quadrillion, six hundred and seven trillion, four hundred and thirty-one billion, seven hundred and sixty-eight million, two hundred and eleven thousand, four hundred and fifty-six.

No go and hook up everything to the internet. No reason not to by the WiFi enabled toaster :)

Happy Friday!
