It is great to see you on steem Paul. I am not a regular on YT now so it will be good to keep you with your videos here.

I don't know why i thought this, but i thought that i would be uploading my video here. Now I seem to be understanding it a bit.
I like the image thing under your post - how do I make one of those? Is it kinda like a signature?
Hi Paul, you can upload videos directly through DTube ( https://dlive.io/ ) which is the YouTube equivalent on the steem blockchain.
You need the free @steem-plus browser add-on to include the signature & image in your comments.
It is available on Chrome (and Firefox as well I think).
It is probably worth getting an account on Discord as well as that is where most day-to-day communication is done for Steem. You can find me there @Pennsif#9921.
If you need any help with anything just let me know.

that is a lot to digest! thank you! Did you just check back to this post or did you get a notification that i had replied?
You can get your recent replies from your blog, under recent replies.
I am the developer of the SteemPlus extension mentionned above and saw this post through our mention feature. SteemPlus adds over 30 features, including direct upload of videos to dTube (coming this week). Check it out here.
Hi Paul, I use SteemPlus, and also a great Discord facility called GINAbot for alerting me to replies and mentions.
Welcome to steemit! Awesome Hugelkultur you got there! I'm planning on making one as well with all the branches I have around my yard. Just was never sure where to begin, where to put it, or how deep I'll have to dig.
Following you too. Hopefully your videos will inspire/motivate me to get one built. Living out here in arid and sandy Colorado, I could sure use some hugeling. :)
I wish to express that while some people choose to put wood in the ground, i am a very strong advocate of building UP! So you would lay the sticks on the ground and bury that. And what you dug up, turns into a bit of a sunken path!
Welcome to steem, Mr. Wheaton! There's a big permaculture and homesteading faction here, you'll fit right in! If you're on discord, here's a homesteading group that's pretty active where your expertise will be particularly appreciated:

Lovely! it may take me a while to get to discord .... or is this post already showing up on discord? I think I saw something that suggested that discord was tied in to steemit?
No, they're not the same, but they're often used in conjunction. There's a bot on discord called @ginabot that a lot of people use for steemit notifications. And there's a lot of groups on there that are steem based. @ghscollective is a prime example of a homesteading group on discord that's Steem based.
Holy crap! It's Paul Wheaton on steemit!
Welcome to the platform! I learned about hugelkultur from watching your videos.
There have been about 6 people suggesting steemit to me. Most recently, a fella named C.E. I am thinking about posting my stuff here when i have new stuff to post. Still finding my sea legs. Youtube says that on the first day I posted this I got ten extra views to this video. :(
I'm not sure if youtube counts videos that are watched through the steemit link. If they go to your youtube page, obviously those views are counted.
Another thing you could consider doing is posting some of your older videos here to steemit. I'm sure there are people here who would be interested in seeing the rocket stove videos that you did a few years ago.
Paul, i'm very glad you have joined Steemit! I would encourage you to upload all the content you can here for this fantastic community! Build some steem Paul!
Awesome that you found steemit, I've been a big fan of your hügelkultur practice and Rocket mass heater's for a long time!
WELCOME @paulwheaton!!!

Greetings from Holland. I am a.o. a (commercial) organic garden volunteer. I tend not to use my YT vids anymore but just make a text blog with some pictures. Also commenting yourself in the tags you just used enlarges your visability but takes time. Finally I put in some cash myself to be able to vote on others and myself a little for visabilty. Enjoy.
So when i upvote on something, it costs me money?
It works like this and feel free to ask again as it is complex. Every day new steem is generated (inflation of 9% per year) and this becomes largely available to all to make upvotes. Thi sis called the rewards pool. Each person can upvote on others not costing you anything. People with a lot of steem power (see the wallet for this) get a larger part meaning their vote is worth more. There is a limit to the number of upvotes you can give each day. For now say you can do ten votes and then recover and do the same again after 24 hours.
As for putting money in yourself it means you put steem in your account and with that increase your steem power (called power up) which makes you a person with a hiher vote value. Otherwise it takes so long. If you get votes from others the rewards come to you after 7 days (see wallet) and you claim them meaning your steem and steempower get a boost (or a little boost).
For now this is enough I think.
