Hi Ya'll!
Hi Ya'll
That’s a common greeting in my part of Texas. I’m a Baby Boomer who finds
I have more in common with Generation X and other “younger” people than with
my own age group. The past 3 years have been the beginning of an adventure that
keeps me excited and gives me a reason to get up in the morning now that I’m retired
and no longer working for “The Man”.
You see, three years ago my husband and I moved into our dream home. We had both
dreamed about a home on acreage. Me, for the chance to have a large garden, perhaps
some chickens and rabbits, and a more natural lifestyle. Him, the chance to have a
woodworking shop, a “Man Cave” and a front porch where he could enjoy the morning
and/or evening, watching Ma Nature do her thing.
I am finding that most of the folks on a similar journey into homesteading are much
younger than I am. They have more energy, and usually more responsibilities to keep
them going. I bring some experience to the homesteading lifestyle. For instance, I
do waterbath canning, pressure canning, dehydrating, salting and freezing to preserve
food from my garden or the Farmers Market. Also, I’ve sewn my own clothes for a lot
of my life. I began with sewing cards. My Mom gathered pieces of light weight
cardboard and added simple geometric shapes. I was to sew along the lines to practice.
When I got a little older I began making doll clothes and then my own clothes.
High energy people make me feel younger, and most of these new friends keep
me going. Please understand I am not complaining, but I have found that beginning a
homestead at my age is different from beginning at 30 or 40 or even 50. For instance,
I no longer have the strength I had back then, so I’m learning to use leverage to help
lift and move things.
Thank you to my friend @daddykirbs for encouraging me to get on Steemit.
I love it already! I invite you to come along with me on this journey.
I promise to share my outlook on things.

Glad to see ya here Kate!
weetreebonsai, thanks for the welcome. I'm excited to be here. I'm thrilled to have a way to present content that does not involve me in front of a camera.
I'm happy to be taken on this trip your about to share with us :)
Hey freaky, nice to see you around on a day different from Saturday. Thanks for the warm welcome.
Welcome and it makes me happy to see someone do something and not complain about being too old to do it. I believe that no matter what, if you want to do something, you'll find a way to do it.
Best of luck!
Hi breakfastchief. Thanks for the lovely welcome. I decided, a long time ago, that age was just not a reason to fore go trying something. As long as you have a positive attitude anyone can learn through experience, and sometimes that learning takes a positive bent! I look forward to learning from you as well.
Welcome to Steemit and the homesteading community here! We are so happy to have you! I look forward to learning from you! I am taking baby steps on the homesteading front and welcome all the help anyone cares to offer. Lol!
I am especially wanting to start sewing. (I haven't done that since high school and am finding it more difficult to recall than I thought it would.)
Are you over on YT? If so, what is your channel name?
Thank you for the lovely welcome. To answer your question I'm not on YT except to help @daddykirbs with his Saturday Morning Live show. Just never liked being in front of a camera, Guess I better get over that though, right?
Ummmm....YES PLEASE! Haha! I can't learn to sew from you if you won't record it! hahaha! I actually have a social anxiety. I have found that being on YT and here has helped with that as it is a controlled setting (in my control). I really hope to see you on camera soon!
You are welcome for the welcome. Lol! I am an Oklahoman so we are neighbors. ;) We gotta stick together don't we?!?
Absolutely we have to stick together. We Southwesterners have a whole different society from traditional southerners.
Absolutely! 😁
Looking forward to following your adventures.
Thanks johncalvin. I'm excited to be here.
Good job Kate! I hope to post my first Steemit soon. Thanks for the inspiration.
trishw, so glad to see this comment. I can't tell you how much fun I've had so far and I've only been here a few days. Get going girl, you won't regret it.
Hey Kate welcome to Steemit! Great to see you over here.
Thanks texasboys. I'm really excited to be here.
