Howdy STEEM'ers, from the very warm and sunny Island of Mauritius!
Where to start? ....My name is Wes.
I was born in Durban South Africa to my South African father and Mauritian mother, I went to school up to the age of 14 years in SA then we moved to Mauritius where I finished my schooling. I have done a fair bit of travelling and my hobbies include, golf, cooking, anything technology related, guitar and I really enjoy my rock music plus I am a massive bitcoin fan. I have never been much of a writer, so this is completely new to me and I suppose it will take a few posts and a lot of practise to get something more meaningful onto the screen but here we go, why not!
For those of you that have never heard of or seen Durban South Africa here it is...
When I am not enjoying my free time with the family and pastimes as mentioned above I do have to earn a living and I do this by running our Real Estate company here in Mauritius with my wife and family, I do enjoy it don't get me wrong but obviously it is not my number 1 passion. I am quit passionate about bitcoin, the ideas and possibilities of decentralisation and the bright future platforms like Steemit could usher in. I have not yet figured out how or where I will fit into this "new future" but I am doing my best to keep an eye on it, get involved where I can and stay up to date with the space. Mauritius, being in the middle of nowhere basically (middle of the Indian Ocean) is not exactly at the cutting edge when it comes to tech and especially not so for bitcoin, blockchain and so on, so it is a little challenging.
Here is an aerial view of the South West of Mauritius, I live in this region in an area called Black River.
Mauritius is quite small, only about 65km long by 45km wide. (according to Wikipedia it is the 180th biggest country in the world, not too impressive, ha!). It is extremely beautiful though, world renowned for its beaches, reef and sea-life, mountains and flora and fauna. It is very popular with honeymooners and its coastline is dotted with 5-star resorts and hotels. It is a very nice place to live, but like all small place its also good to get out from time to time, otherwise you get a little island feverish (like the movie "ground hog day"!).
A typical Mauritian beach...
Heres an interesting, but useless fact - The Dodo is from Mauritius (although now extinct!)
Well, its been a pleasure meeting all of you and I am really excited to be a part of the Steemit community, I have really high hope for the platform and wish you all the best of luck... until next time....
Happy Steeming!
Ciao, Wes
