Instant recluse -- just add water

in #introduceyourself7 years ago

Imagine this: You live in northern Minnesota in a ramshackle house with 7 cats and more than 5000 books. Electricity but no indoor plumbing. Internet but coyotes. All your food (and everything else, for that matter) is courtesy of FedEx. You've got nothing but time... and still the days fly by.

That is my material setup, 24 acres of nowhere, a combo of fields, woods and bog. Surrounded by the decaying efforts of previous homesteaders (2 houses, 1 foundation, a couple of outhouses, animal housing, even a combine). A hundred downed trees from a couple of wind storms. Northern gothic, in short.

This may explain why my current project is an illustrated collection of poems by E.A. Poe. I'm an artist who uses digital compositing to make illustrations. Digital compositing is a form of collage where you blend the pieces together into an organic whole instead of the cut-and-paste look.

I'm on Steemit because decentralization can't happen fast enough.

Hi. A fellow poet and semi-recluse here. Greetings from another newbie in "the class of 4-21-18." I hope you enjoy it here. Northern Maine, but only three cats, and we do have running water. Follow me back, OK? Peace.

Oh, Maine! I'm trying to arrange things so that I can move there - the middle part of the state - to be nearer my daughter. I hope you will occasionally post about the state on your blog: So far I have only found people visiting Maine, not living there. Lots of history: George Burroughs, Casco Bay, etc. I want to see it for myself : D

Oh...that's what we real Mainers call "northern Mass." You should come up north where, yes, it's colder, but a LOT cheaper real-estate and real-estate-taxes-wise.

I just figured out how to see if there's a reply, lol.

Part of the big draw of Maine for me is the warmer weather. I'm in zone 3 now; I think you have to be on the Canadian border to find such coldness in Maine. I dream of zones 4 and 5 : D

I am on the Canadian border...but east, not so much north.
