Introduction to Virginia Y

Hey, everyone!

This is really wired to me, because I don’t really like to talk about myself, but I thought it’s about time.

If you don’t have the nerves for a long read, anyway — I’ll save you the time.

In short: My name is Virginia I’m a 27 years old I’m a photographer shooting for about 10 years now.
I’m hosting a photography podcast called The Fashion Photography Podcast, I have my YouTube Chanel and I’ve been published in most of the major magazines across the world.
Love pizza, ice-cream, my family, my soul-mate, my parrot and to share my knowledge.

That’s me in just two sentences. I think we all know they are not enough, so let me tell you my real story now.

I was born in Bulgaria — if you know where that is, I bet you are good at Geography.
I have older sister, younger brother and gorgeous parents.
She almost died when she was about 16yo, by drowning and now she’s a proud mom of 2 and he (a.k.a my brother) is a little genius. Ok, not so little anymore.

My parents are tremendous people. “Simply the best” was originally written for them. Been thru…. some pretty amazing times — when we had no reason to worry about anything and some pretty awful periods considering to shoot themselves and also me and my sister and brother, so that we won’t suffer, because we had no money for food.
Obviously they are very good at managing escaping from pretty bad situations, because I’m still here.
My family is the league of my heroes.
The best and the most honest people I know.

In my family everyone does whatever he/she is into.
Just so that you can understand me — my parents have a transportation/travel company, my sister is a biologist, my brother is all about smart homes and I…. Oh my….

I was really into drawing, or at least that’s what I thought…

Before even saying my first words (and God, it took me a while… I started talking at 4…) I was drawing… So I thought this is what I was meant to be — a painter.

And I did my best! I had private lessons, started a class for young gifted “painters” and so and so…
Till I saw a lady on the street painting absolutely stunning portraits for just a dollar…
I guess that was the day I had enough…

One day, we were celebrating a birthday and the husband of my aunt asked if I can take a photo of me and my mom in the hallway, because there was no one else around…
I did, and in that moment my teenage brain realized the miracle that has just happened — a moment forever frozen in time.

And this was exactly the first moment I remember my hear almost exploded in silent excitement. Silent… because I’m pretty good at keeping all of my crazy thoughts to myself.

The thing was — photography was my sister’s hobby and I’m a middle child — I’d never take someone else’s toy, so I kept silent.

Then suddenly came that “beautiful” moment when I had to apply for high school.

I had no idea what I wanted to do, all I knew was — I don’t want to draw any more.
These were the two months I had as a teenager, because I was just super lost and I didn’t really cared what’s going to happen next.
Fortunately my mom had found one school with many different options.
Of course it can not be that easy, so for all the different options I had different exams.

The options were: Fashion design, biology, tourism and audiovision and many others, but those were the only suitable for me….

So the following thoughts were crossing my mind:

(As I already mentioned) I don’t want to draw anymore.
My sister is into biology (and you know my theory about taking other people’s toys).
Tourism. I could help my parents company with that… But I’m super bad at geography. I guess I can figure that out some how…….I suppose… If only I had any interest in this…
What the hell is audiovision?!
I’m a winner in this life, not a quitter, so I took all the exams….
-But I must admit… That day I draw the most awful painting in my entire life. And I was super proud.
-Showed all I knew about biology
-Studied my *ss off for the Geography test
-And I did my best on the audiovision exam, thou I wasn’t even sure why I’m doing this.

Got a C on my drawing, B on my biology test, D on all my knowledge on Geography and A on the freaking audiovison.
This A got me the first place at the class. Best score student.

And this led to a conversation with the school head.
The conversation was all about how much I want to study Tourism. (Obviously my face was telling the opposite) And how I don’t even know what’s that class that I’ve been accepted to…

At age 13 I got my first big — life changing offer.

The head of the school said:

“I’ll tell you what the audiovision is and you will go home.
You’ll come back tomorrow and if you tell me Tourism is what you really want — I’m signing you up right away”
We got home and Oh my! I’m getting late! Sorry guys I really have to go now!

And by the way that’s my story so it’s quite personal, so if you want me to continue with it tomorrow — tell me so I can make sure, I’m not just exposing myself for no reason =)
