Hello from Beautiful Canada!
There never is a memorable way to truly #introduceyourself without sounding like a complete lunatic. So forgive my rambling. Here goes...
I love the written word in its many forms, believe in karma, and welcome a good conversation regardless of opinion.
Steemit hit my radar not too long ago thanks to my partner who is a strong believer and supporter of cryptocurrency. Ask me about it, and I will tell you I have much to learn. But when I realized there's a global platform to communicate and maybe cross paths with people outside of my normal social or professional circles, well, you've piqued my interest. Throw in the potential to be part of something massive, I'm making popcorn and sticking around.
You see, I've spent a fair part of my life working in Canadian publishing and mass media writing, editing and blogging. Somewhere along the way, I realized I had stopped writing for myself and a paycheck superceded personal views, opinions and ethics. While I met some fantastic and life-long friends along the way, I also saw the worst in people through their version of corporate success. The cubicle life is not for me.
Having said that...journalism, marketing, online content, blogging...call it what you like. The written word continues to reinvent itself through all mediums and I still want to be a part of it because I think I still have a lot to say. Even if no one's listening. More so, I still have much to learn.
So far?
I believe empathy should trump apathy and that kindness is contagious. The human spirit is more resilient than we think. Experience, whether positive or not, reminds us we are all students of life. Time is precious, life is beautiful and despite all that media feeds us, I still believe people are genuinely good.
Humility is a lost art and words are often lost in translation. I try to be mindful that no matter how intelligent, privileged or talented we think we are, it can all be gone in a heartbeat. I'll always cheer for the underdog because that's the person who appreciates the good when it happens and has learned not to take anyone or anything for granted.
Weaknesses: English literature, leather journals, space-age pens, '80s new wave (Depeche Mode, Bragg, Weller, The Pogues), indie alt & strong martinis.
Favourite cities: NY, London, Nashville, Vancouver & TO.
Bucket list: China, Northern Lights, learn to swim (that's right...I live in one of the most beautiful countries in the world with plenty of stunning lakes and I can't swim to save my damn life), bathe an elephant, play bingo in a bingo hall, and chase a tornado (not really, I'm adventurous but not cray-cray).
If you're still with me, I applaud your stellar attention span. I mean that. Thanks for the taking the time (you will never get back) to read my first post. Please don't be a stranger. Comments, suggestions and even a friendly hello are always welcome.
Cheers to the Steemit community...wherever you are.
Best,
Vintage-K
Welcome to Steemit! It is an amazing place to share and get to know more people outside of your circle that's for sure.
You will love the community and being here in general. :)
Thanks @thegoliath. Cheers to new chapters!
Hey @vintage-k ! Welcome to steemit community! That's a great introduction post! We hope you're going to enjoy this platform, so good luck and steem on. :) @extremeromance
Hey @extremeromance ! Thanks for dropping by. Looking forward to living vicariously through your travel posts. :)
Very interesting! I saw that you are new on steemit so I wanted to personally welcome you. Here's an upvote from me and know that the steemit community awaits!
I am struggeling, like you, to get those big upvotes on my posts so maybe you want to try @MinnowPowerUp where you can earn up to 30% more steem power than just directly powering up! It's a subscription based daily upvote bot that draws its power from a delegation pool. I compiled this post to explain the system in more depth and share my own experience in earning wupvotes for over $1 a day.
Hey @kromosoom, thanks for the welcome and suggestion. I'll check it out. @vintage-k
Welcome to Steemit! You only came across as a half-lunatic, so you are good to go. :) Never bathed an elephant, but I have been to China! (And I can swim...)
Thanks @coldsteem, too bad there isn't an upvote lunatic button. Former marine? I'd hope you can swim!
@vintage-k...
Welcome to the community k.
You're probably gonna have to find a steemitanonymous club near you before too long - gets kind of addictive :0)
Anyway, good to see fellow word porn enthusiasts coming in.
Gave you the full steem ahead welcome (upvote, resteem and all that) plus a little social luv to help get you going. Sometimes it helps sometimes it don't but remember....
A little steem goes a long way!
@fredacker
Thanks for the warm welcome. It's quite encouraging though I have much to learn (dang, I sound like Yoda minus the walking stick), but I'll get there...eventually. :)
SteemIt is actually kind of easy to get. I use basic HTML tags vs the markdown out of habit but it works. There are even a few css tricks that can be done if you're patient.
Thanks for the tips. Patience? sigh
Beautiful picture & Great intro!
Welcome to Steemit! Nice to meet you. :-)
Upvoted and followed!
I hope you have lots of fun here and make many friends! :-)
Thank you for sharing... Namaste... :-)
Thank you for the kind words @as-i-see-it!
I'm still navigating my way through the steem references of upvoting, resteeming, etc., but it's appreciated and I've followed you back.
Bio-hacking? Sounds very interesting. Looking forward to reading your posts. :)
You're very welcome. :-)
Thank you for your reply and great comment! :-)
Wishing you happiness, smiles, sweet dreams and sunshine! :-)
Welcome to Steemit! Great introductory post.
Thanks @jibbee!
Welcome to Steemit!
Thanks @trogdor!
Welcome onboard. This was a well-written post. As you have a lot of things to write about. This is a good platform to share your thoughts and idea. Have fun Steeming. :) Also, even I think chasing tornado would be fun. ;)
Thanks for the encouragement, @firepower. No chasing tornadoes for me. It would make for a terrible hair day. :)
It would make for a terrible hair day. :)
You are a funny person. Keep having fun. :)
Thank you!
So true, @mewe.
