Let me tell you a story... My first steemit post

in #introduceyourself6 years ago

Howdy dear reader and welcome to my first blog post!

My name is Tom as you could read from my profile and today I am going to introduce myself to this
amazing platform and this way I am going to support growth and recognition of blockchain technologies.

By the subject of this post you can already say that I am a Front End developer currently working in Web Summit.
But what you don't know just yet is the way I ended up in Web Summit or even Ireland.

My development journey starts 5 years ago while I was working as an educator, teaching kids about healthy lifestyles, non-violent behaviour and equality.

While I really enjoyed every bit of that work I always had this urge to be part of the tech world.

As a kid playing games online I have formed loads of alliances, tribes and clans with people from all over the world
but we were always missing something to make our group unique, better and irresistible to other players.
That something was a really nice website representing our skills(gameplay videos) and representing our colours and logo.

At that point I already knew a bit about Photoshop so I was able to create some really ugly logo but I had no clue how to make a website. Lucky enough I stumbled upon website builder UCOZ.
This amazing tool has brought me into the development world. Even though it's a simple drag and drop system you were still able to do some coding. e.g. you could edit CSS and HTML of certain blocks and similar.

As you could imagine I broke this website gazillion times until I learned some basic HTML and CSS.

For some unknown reason I picked Technical Mechanical school instead of computer engineering school and ended up learning everything about thermodynamics, mechatronics and cars. This was all interesting first couple of months until I realised that I am not actually into this stuff and I want to do something different - something more. So I joined a non-governmental organisation that was doing this amazing project trying to decrease level of violence among young adults.

After two years volunteering for this NGO, they have hired me full time as an Peer Educator.

Long story short year later I have decided to sign up for Web Design course and that's when everything changed.

In the meantime I have quit my job(Peer Educator) and have worked on several different jobs such as general operative in super market, electrician(yep you read that right freaking electrician), sales person at kids playground  and call agent.

After a bit over 6 months my Web Design mentor has asked me to join him after being huge pain in the a** getting him to explain all and everything web design related.

Year and couple of months later I have decided to move to Dublin, Ireland and that's where fun starts!

After only two weeks in Ireland I started to work for small agency as a Web Developer(full-stack more than just front end). Six months later I was offered a Front End position in Bank of Ireland. Sounds huge doesn't it? :O

Two long years later and so many new skills and technologies I have again decided that it's time to jump into something more interesting, more fun and more agile.

I moved to Web Summit. Yes! The Web Summit

The giants of the web assemble
Wall Street Journal

If you have no clue what Web Summit it is "The largest tech conference in the world" - Inc.
Where all the big names gather to share their knowledge, ideas and support startups.
Where some of the greatest startups started like UBER, OnePlus, Revoult and many many more.

Web Summit is place of joy, fun and hard work. Incredible amount of talent being used across all teams.
One of rare environments where you can share your ideas and actually end up working developing/creating it.
Where developer can end up being production manager or designing and building stages.
It's a place where you get to play table tennis whenever you feel like you need a break, where Xbox Fifa tournaments are just an intro to actual five a side football.

At the end of the day it's the place where you can be creative, open minded and enjoy every second of your day.
All young(and old) talents are welcomed like queens and kings.

After all that said, it is the place where I get to experiment with any technology that we might feel is worth trying it out.

One day you might be working on developing smallest feature ever such as Startups sharing link but other you might be working on full time project.

To finalise this long intro to who I am and what I do :)

I will be writing mainly about tech stuff but expect to see some other interesting stuff.

I will aim to post as regular as possible but due to all the things I am dealing with at the moment it might be once a week or once a month!

Keep plugged in as you might be blown away with some of the content that I'll be sharing with you!

Hope you liked my first post and please leave a comment and guide me into the direction that might be of your interest as well.

If you spotted any mistake please let me know as I am trying to improve my CroEnglish :P

Thanks for reading and I hope we'll have this nice discussion again in the near future :)

Here's a photo of beer as you made it to the end :D
