Introducing: The Ataxia Project
The Ataxia Project
Being disabled is crazy expensive! Disability is, no doubt, a financial hardship, too! The Ataxia Project ‘s vision is to try to aliviate that huge problem- no matter the size of the impact. The project will focus on the Ataxia community, and will harness the awesome power of the Steem Blockchain to realize its vision.
What Is Ataxia?
Ataxia is a degenerative disease of the nervous system, and its symptoms can mimic those of being drunk – slurred speech, stumbling, falling, and incoordination. All are related to degeneration of the part of the brain, called the cerebellum. The cerebellum is responsible for coordinating movement. The disease affects people of all ages. Complications from the disease are serious, oftentimes debilitating, and can be life-shortening. Ataxia is an umbrella term given to a basket of diseases. Approximetly, 1 in 150,000 people in the U.S. live with some sort of Ataxia.
Financial Assistance
There are a handful of charities that support Ataxia research, but The Ataxia Project aims to due something different. We hope to support these patients in an entirely new way- with financial support!!
The Ataxia Project will assist with the purchase of assistive devices (such as wheelchairs and lifts) and with grants for various other disability related needs.
A Lofty Vision
Yes, our vision is a lofty one. We believe in the power of this blockchain, and more importantly, the Steem community. It might take years for it to be deemed a success, but it’s always worth trying. At the very least, we will be able to raise awareness for this horrible disease!
