Life of an independent Artist pt 2 - The Visual Artist

Here is the side of my life I like to call "The Visual Artist". I've always wanted to draw... but I never been able to. It was only 3 years ago that I started. But I absolutely love it, I can't think of my life without drawing, and for me is not the drawing itself that matters. But rather the stories it can tell.

Children’s books:

I draw and illustrate stories and children’s books, I have finished one called the flower and the treehttps://theartoftomas.com/an-o… and another called the princess and the busker. That last one tells the story of how I met the love of my life told as if it were a fairy tale (which it totally was), I gave the original for her birthday, she loved it almost as much as I did while making it 🙂

Busking comic revisited:

Another project I am involved in is as I mentioned above, my busking comic strip. My goal here is to make one a day in sketches and one a week done in color.

Print on demand:

I have now started my own print on demand shop, where I am slowly starting to upload all my different designs and illustrations, then they put it into shirts, journals, phone cases and more stuff that you can sell online. The beauty of this kind of services is because the company doesn’t stock any of the shirts, rather they are made only when an order comes in, there’s no need for any initial investment, it’s free!

The draw back? … You only make a little percentage of the sale, but they also handle payment, shipment and customer support.

Social Media:

In terms of channels for my artworks I am in different ones, the most I use is Facebook and Instagram. But I recently joined Webtoons (http://www.webtoons.com/en/challenge/the-art-of-tomas/list?title_no=124704), Tumblr (https://theartoftomas.tumblr.com/) and Deviantart (https://theartoftomas.deviantart.com/). I am still on an exploratory phase with my social channels, trying to figure out what works best for me.

Future projects:

One of the things that I aspire to do and will be doing in the future is combining my storytelling, my drawings and my music to create videos and audiovisual media. This will also give me more material for my YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqz1KjRGT1XF5zv8UieSfKg?), and offer me a way to integrate my different interests into one definite art form.
