I think steemit has a shot. Right now there is a spammy aspect that is off putting to me (upvote centered comments/bots?). However, this is in beta right now. It could be a great platform if they put in the work.

As to your question of will people censor themselves if it means their future income is effected, I would say yes. But is that necessarily a bad thing? I mean, I censor myself in some small way everyday when I walk into work, because I want to remain professional.

It's a small community right now, but it sure is fun. It feels fresh. I am excited to see the new interface and hope it gets more exposure.
