Oh no, another long-haired geek!

in #introduceyourself7 years ago (edited)

So there I was, making a bad first impression on a Gridcoin post.
People suggested making a decent introduction post, so here I am, may aswell get a little bit more active.

Who am I and what do I do?

My real name is Jens R., I'm from Belgium (so English ain't my first language) and was born 10 days before the Chernobyl disaster, so that may explain some things about me.

My job is being an application engineer for a hospital in Ghent. My daily tasks range from supporting our PACS environment, integrating specific applications and medical devices into our EHR with the help of Mirth, to developing some web & mobile apps which are used by our nurses and doctors.

In my free-time, I still keep nerding it up.
I play games (mostly World Of Warcraft (ooohhhh yesss, I'm one of those)), I watch movies and TV series, listen music, trade crytocoins.
Now you think "that's pretty generic", but I love to take it up a notch.
I like writing scripts and websites to monitor my collection and keep sites like tvdb and musicbrianz up to date. More about this in 'My plans for steemit'.
Oh, and sometimes I do things with other people, what's it called, socialize, but ehh ;-)

Look at me, being all cheerfull at my desk at work! I really need a shave.

My plans for steemit

My first big project will be a tutorial on how to get started developing an Android & iOS app with Visual Studio + Xamarin for myself, my colleagues and of course, everyone else who is interested.
This tutorial will be a step by step guide on how to get started with VS and Xamarin with the end product... a remote for the Gridcoin wallet, which hopefully can be expanded to other coins.
It's not my intention to plain copy Gridcoin Remote, but rather to create its iOS little brother while practicing, documenting and maybe getting hints from others.
Little disclaimer though, I'm not a fully educated programmer, so some of my choices may not be the taste of professionals, hopefully they have some tips for me aswel.

If I solve a challenge during my developing or create something to be proud of (which may be peanuts to others, haha), I'll document it for my own sake (I have a reputation to even lose data from a RAID 5 setup... twice), and the sake of other people which may stand before the same challenge.

In the meanwhile, I want to keep up with the Gridcoin community aswell, duh.

Have a great night & see you soon!
