 Теперь, я постараюсь рассказать о любимом хобби , и как всё это начиналось. 

                                        THE PREFACE.

It all started in 2009 when I decided to study in the great city Saint-Petersburg and entered the State Marine Technical University of St.Petersburg. I had plenty of time and started to find something I can pursue in addition to my learning. In my native city I liked riding skateboards, but as Saint-Petersburg is actually allocated to the north of Sochi,I couldn't get much pleasure in being outside.

Всё началось в 2009 году, когда я поехал учиться в прекрасный город Санкт-Петербург и поступил в СПбГМТУ. Времени было много, но помимо учёбы заниматься было особо нечем. В родном городе я любил кататься на скейтборде, но так как Санкт-Петербург находился ближе к Северу, на улице было не очень приятно находится. 

First snows came in late October and the city was covered with snow till the end of spring.

Снег выпадал в конце октября и лежал практически до конца весны.

           

At that time my brother advised me to go snowboarding.

I found a soul-mate very quickly, he was my classmate. Then we, without long thinking, bought our first snowboards at the flea market.

So, my first serious hobby was snowboarding.

В то время мой родной брат посоветовал мне попробовать заняться сноубордингом. Я быстро нашёл единомышленника с моей группы в университете и мы недолго думая приобрели на барахолке наши первые доски. Так моим первым серьёзным хобби стал сноуборд.

                                         THE FIRST DAY.

It started with "ordinary" forested slopes, we were riding around cleared snow tracks and had no idea of what "real snowboarding" with its technique mean.

Всё начиналось с обычных лесных склонов, мы катались по накатанной тропинке и даже не представляли, что такое настоящий сноубординг с его техникой катания.

A few days later we were tired of constant falling and getting up out of the snow. We decided to prepare ourselves for skiing resort,that was located not very far from the city.

Спустя пару дней нам надоело падать и постоянно выгребаться из под снега, и мы решили поехать на настоящий горнолыжный курорт, который находился недалеко от города. 

                                              THE TENTH DAY.

Having come to the resort "Igora", we didn't really understand what we should do, where we should go and how we can begin… The poor students didn't have money for a snowboarding instructor, thus we decided to rush to the mountainside for beginners and to master there some basic moves we'd known about thanks to YouTube.

I behaved blatantly and started to watch another beginner who was taught by a trainer. I just followed the instructions which were addressed at my "colleague".

My friend was more arrogant, he tried to snowboard independently. But unfortunately he fell off his board because of a stupid mistake and got hurt.

 He broke his arm and the next day got to the university being in a cast. 

But in any case, it was a wonderful day and our individual "starting point"!

Приехав на курорт под названием "Igora", мы в начале не особо понимали что нам делать, куда идти и с чего вообще начинать. У бедных студентов денег на инструктора не было, поэтому мы гордо решили ринуться на склон для новичков и попробовать отработать пару начальных движений, которые до этого подсмотрели на YouTube. Я поступил более нагло - начал наблюдать за учеником, который занимался вместе с инструктором. Просто выполнял указания, и делал что тот ему велел. Друг мой был более самоуверенный и пытался заниматься сам, но к сожалению нелепо упал и получил травму. На следующий день в университет пришёл с гипсом и переломом руки. Но всё равно это был замечательный день, после которого всё и началось!

                                FIRST TRIP TO THE MOUNTAINS. 

First semester is done, the exams are passed, and I can easily go home, to my native city Sochi. It is located on the coast of the Black Sea.

Первый семестр окончен, экзамены сданы, теперь смело можно ехать домой в мой родной город Сочи, который находится на побережье черного моря.

Without thinking twice, I decided to take with me a snowboard, cause there're 3 skiing resorts located 45km from the city. The height of the mountains reached 2375m! It was something new and "wild" for me, because the elevation range in Saint-Petersburg, where I had my first experience, was 120m!

Долго не думая я решил взять с собой сноуборд, так как в 45км от города находилось целых 3 горнолыжных курорта. Высота гор достигала 2375м! Для меня это было нечто новое и необузданное, учитывая что до этого я катался в Санкт-Петербурге, где перепад высот составлял всего лишь 120м!

In fact, Sochi with its microclimate deserves special attention. I'll definitely tell about it some other time…

I'm distracted. Let's continue!) 

I came home in late January and was very surprised. My favorite southern city welcomed me with the mild, sunny weather (about 18 degrees). In comparison to Saint-Petersburg (-15 degrees) Sochi seemed to me like a paradise. Until I left my city, I didn't notice its beauty.

The first weekend I went to try out our skiing resorts, which I'd already visited as a backpacker.

Вообще город Сочи с его микроклиматом заслуживает отдельной темы для разговора, как нибудь потом обязательно о нём напишу...Отвлёкся, продолжу.)Приехал я домой в конце января. Был удивлён, мой любимый южный город встретил меня теплой, солнечной погодой (что-то в районе 18-20 градусов), и после Санкт-Петербурга( с его -15) показался мне раем. ( пока не уезжал из родного города, не замечал что у нас так клёво.) В первые же выходные я конечно же поехал опробовать наши горнолыжные курорты, в которых я раньше был только как пеший турист.

Of course, it's really strange when the sun shines and solar weather is set to continue on the coast, though the mountains near the city are covered with "powder" snow, allowing people to snowboard, isn't it?  

There's actually one unreal interval of the road, when you follow the river and green forest,then drive into the tunnel,running for 2153m,and finally you find yourselves in a winter dream, where the snow flakes envelop the trees. It's a miracle, isn't it? 

And its name is "Krasnaya Polyana"

Очень странно конечно, на побережье светит солнце и погода +10-20, но в 45 км лежит неимоверная куча пухлого снега и народ катается. Есть даже один сказочный период дороги по пути, где ты едешь вдоль речки и зеленного леса, въезжаешь в туннель протяженностью  2153м и попадаешь в зимнюю сказку, лес окутанный белыми хлопьями снега. Ну это разве не чудо?!) Ещё какое чудо, и имя ему Красная поляна.

  

When I came to the resort, I wasn't going to waste my time and immediately ran to the ski lift to find myself up top. My first attempts to get down the mountains were not encouraging. How wrong was I about my "good" snowboarding skills?

По приезду на курорт я время даром не терял и сразу же побежал на подъемник, чтоб поскорее очутиться наверху. Мои первые спуски оставляли желать лучшего. Каким же я был глупцом, когда думал что я чему-то научился до этого.

One ski slope in Sochi was equal to my ten training days in Saint-Petersburg. From one ski pass to another I understood better and better that I've got a lot of learning to do.And this fact enhanced my interest. To compare with my attempts in Petersburg, my tuition in the mountains continued by leaps and bounds. The mountains and snowboarding impressed me so much that one day I understood - it will be my lifelong passion.

Мой один спуск с самой вершины до низу, равнялся 10 дням полного катания в Санкт-Петербурге. С каждым подъемом я осознавал, что мне ещё многому предстоит научиться и это давало мне большой интерес. В горах моё обучение шло 7 мильными шагами, по сравнению с холмами где я до этого пытался чему-то обучиться. Горы и сам процесс катания по ним меня настолько впечатлил, что в какой-то момент я осознал, моё новое увлечение будет длиною в ЖИЗНЬ.

                                                5 YEARS AFTER.

I returned to my native wonderful city Sochi. Now I work at the skiing resort. In my spare time, I teach my friends and acquaintances (using the very method which I had to overhear formerly), blow up the "powder snow" and just enjoy snowboarding.

Я вернулся в свой родной, прекрасный город Сочи, теперь работаю на горнолыжном курорте. В своё свободное время обучаю друзей и знакомых ( по той самой методике, что подслушал когда-то давно ), взрываю пухляк и просто наслаждаюсь катанием!

 My favorite stream of snowboarding is freeride, cause there every slope is particular.

Любимое направление в сноубординге это фрирайд, где каждый спуск никогда не может быть одинаков.

Freedom and being intimate with nature - that's what I'm really impressed with.

Эта свобода, и уединение с природой, вот что действительно меня впечатляет. 

It seems to me that nothing in my life could compare to these feelings when you're boarding among the mountains and simultaneously you're soaring on the clouds of heaven. It was the best emotion for me.

Мне казалось что ничего не может сравниться с теми ощущениями, которые ты испытываешь, когда мчишь по свежевыпавшему снегу и кажется словно паришь по облакам, это было для меня лучшее чувство.

A year ago
(again, on the recommendation of my brother), I decided to try surfing! 

But that's another story, which I'm going to tell you later, in my next blog.
By the way, we also have surfing in Sochi :)

Год назад, (опять же по рекомендации брата), я решил попробовать что такое серфинг... но это уже другая история, которую я постараюсь рассказать в одном из следующих блогов. Кстати,  у в Сочи серфинг тоже есть :)
