RE: Hello steemians! Self-intro & What a time to be alive (really!)

Howdy young lady,
Welcome to the Steemit community. You gave quite a splendid introduction of yourself and your ambitions.
I agree with your ledger for the most part, but totally agree the need to question everything.
From what I gather your primary field of endeavor is renewable energy.
I believe in using sources of energy that are readily available and have less negative impact on the environment such as wind, solar, etc. , however I do question the term used to describe them "renewable".
The sunlight you see today is not the sunlight you will see tomorrow, or next week or next year. The wind that blows past you today will not be the same wind that blows by tomorrow or the next day.
Once a point in time is crossed, what was available up to that point is no longer available , it now resides in the past. it is not "renewed".
I would suggest a change in the terminology of the field of your work to "readily available energy" or RAE for shortness of the term.
I believe in truth and honesty and feel RAE would better reflect the true nature of the use of wind, solar etc.
I hope you would consider this and discuss among your colleagues.
Until next time,
@sultnpapper

Howdy to you too
That's the beauty of questioning everything right? I love being proven wrong :)

So I really like your ideas re: renewable vs readily available energy. I feel the concept of 'renewable' only came about as a juxtaposition to 'non-renewable' i.e. fossil fuels. Agree it has never quite sat right with me either and I'll admit they're still not 100% environmentally neutral or even renewable (because we can't predict when the sun will shine or wind will blow tomorrow, let alone 50 years' time!).
If I could re-name it I'd probably go along the lines of 'fuel-free' or 'free power' - something to capture that they have zero marginal costs and zero fuel costs once built, as you can take advantage of the 'readily available' open access and free resources that are wind, sunshine, waves etc.

Definitely something to explore further - thanks for the insightful comment!

HI Caita,

I just joined Steemit and @sultnpapper mentioned that you and I seemed to think along the same lines. I'll be following your postings.

Thanks for the intro @sultnpapper and welcome @thegoodtrooper - great to connect with someone with so much in common!
PS how great was the sunshine in Sydney today. Let's build more solar. :)
