Hello Steemit!! Thanks for having me! A little about my crazy life!

in #introduceyourself7 years ago (edited)

Who am I?

Well, I am a British guy, a keen musician, travel enthusiast, professional adventurer and a carpenter/furniture maker now. Specifically tables. I’m in my 30’s and in the process of a solo/new business venture, just a few months to date making furniture but with a lot of past experience!

I love to DJ/mix and I have a pretty extensive music history. I have played the drums for about 20 years on and off in bands as well as the guitar and some piano. I used to teach drumming as a second job. Filling my time these days when I have a chance mixing Drum and Bass but I am the biggest Rock/Metal fan alive - although you wouldn’t guess to look at me. I love to scuba dive and also martial arts (I’m a Kung Fu guy) although these days time for these activities is limited. I studied Music Performance and a BTEC (Bachelors Degree) in drumming and live performance. I also love SCUBA diving!!

My story so far

I am a travel addict and I left the UK for the first time at 16 years old and joined the circus! No really! Well kind of. I worked for the next 4 years seasonally for a company that own and operate the biggest concert tents in the world based out of the UK. I’ve actually traveled around 20 countries now (lost count), working in many for short or long periods. I’ve spent about 7/8 years abroad when I add it up.
So I was a Structural Engineer and we would travel all the major festivals of the world putting these huge concert tents up, from Glastonbury to Roskilde. Our friends would call us tent monkeys! Back in those days harnesses were not ‘required’, so effectively I worked as a free climber up to 35 metres (114ft!) for a large part of the process when rigging staging.

With that job and thereafter I ended up traveling the world on a shoestring budget. I went on to travel Thailand, Cambodia and India quite extensively then ended up for several months living In Indonesia. After renting motocross bikes a friend and I drove right down to Komodo island hopping and back and then I actually spent 6 weeks on the Gili Islands living in a hammock between 2 palm trees with my rucksack and guitar stored at a local friends house, spending some evenings helping out on another friend’s ‘party boat’. It was an amazing traditionally built Banca boat made in the Philippines that he had built there with some local boat builders and sailed to the Gili Islands.

After that I went on (for the second time) to spend another 6 months in India running music events in Goa with a friend. I’ve actually spend around 18 months or so travelling India and one of my favourite road trips across the world (there have been many!) involved drunkenly buying a Auto Rickshaw (TukTuk) for $150 with a few friends I had made there and we proceeded to drive (and push!) that 150cc scooter engine TukTuk - ‘The Love’ we ironically named it. Ironically because after driving for 2 months from South India to the Himalayas in the thing, we all wanted to drive it off a cliff by the end of the trip! It’s been funny to return to India and meet people that randomly and unknowingly tell me the urban legend of 4 English guys driving a tuk tuk right across India (they think the distance we covered is impossible). If you go onto ‘Google maps’ and search Kerela to Manali and add a bunch of zig zags across India, East to West, that would be close to our route, visiting all the major and much lesser know places en route over a couple of months.

That’s just a snippet of the adventures but I am trying to make it brief but interesting!

It’s funny thinking back on the things I’ve done and now back here working out of a little workshop in the UK in a woolly jumper for the most part!

I’ll end my story there but in truth it’s only just beginning. I’m just getting warmed up!

Why Steemit?

It’s always really to have fun and be part of something new and exciting as well as share stories and maybe some advice where I can. I love the concept and take my hat off to the creators and you guys and girls that are supporting this excellent idea. I really believe that Steemit WILL be bigger than YouTube one day!

I also thank you for this opportunity! I’ve never made even that much of my story public so it’s a first for me. I am more of an observer I suppose. I hope writing a bit about my story may inspire others to get involved because I believe the potential for this platform is unparalleled! So don’t be an observer! Now is the time for community - more than ever! Be a part of something special and lets help each other where we can. Time for a better future for everyone!
What will I be posting?
I’m a bit of generalist and I love to do a lot of things, including the most obvious. Whatever I can to brighten your day or even better

  • INSPIRE YOU-

I will not be giving updates of what I’m eating! You’ll need to hop over to someone else on Instagram for that.
As and when I can - Music content! I am mainly mixing liquid/neuro Drum and Bass when I have time these days. I’ll keep the mixes easy listening and even hope to make some converts into this excellent and overlooked genre of music (you need to find the good stuff, I’ll try and get it to you!). I also play the guitar and when I can get a bit of recording hardware together I will also get a decent condenser microphone so I can share what I’ve been writing, I always have written my own guitar pieces.

The next time I travel I wish to for the first time to Vlog it. As I am working on my furniture business first so I can share current projects and you can follow what I’m making if you should wish to. I am planning to travel to the Philippines next and want to take a drone to capture the amazing country there for all to see. By the end of this year if all goes well!
I certainly have enough passions and interests that I think I can post things of use to many people, even if I can give you a laugh :)

Final words

Hope this wasn’t too long for my first post but I hope it’s something a bit different and interesting, more so than the ‘rinse and repeat’ kind of format. I hope I can share something that will brighten your day, some solid tips/advice on certain topics and anything else that I can along the way.

Thanks for reading and my thanks to you if you enjoyed and choose to upvote my first post!
Most appreciated!
Regards,
Stackz!

Hello mate, keen on reading your adventures. I also never had the motivation to write but Steemit changed that. May be the fact we get a few cents for our content that sort of motivates one to write. By the way, I'm giving away 10 Steem Dollars. If you are interested, check my post to find out more. Cheers!
