First Post, Hello Steemit!

I've never really been much of a social media user. I generally lurk wherever I go. I'd like to change that. Steemit has given me a little incentive to get my opinion out there and actually enter discourse.

So a little about me:
I'd call myself a libertarian leftist
I'm vegan for ethical and environmental reasons
I'm an atheist
I think social justice is cancer
I advocate legalization, taxation, and regulation of all drugs
I spend far too much time on the internet looking at shitty memes

Other than that, I'm working on becoming less shy. I want to stop being a voice in a crowd and actually become identifiable. I hope our time together will be chill. Cheers.

Hi fellow vegan! :) I am also vegan for ethical and environmental reasons, and because it is simply delicous! Welcome to Steemit! :) CU

I read recently that 6% of Americans self identify as vegans. I am incredibly excited for what the future has to offer. January at least, I've found many of my substitutes sold out at the local grocery store.

yeah, the number of vegans worldwide has certainly increased over the last ten years. it is now much easier to find vegan groceries. :)

Hi there, it seems like we have some things in common :) I too am a libertarian leftist and a vegan for ethical and environmental reasons. I advocate the legalisation of cannabis, psilocybin, LSD and other substances with medicinal properties. All other substances should at least be decriminalised (I live in Sweden where legalisation is still very much a tabu).

But I'm sort of wondering what you mean by "social justice is cancer". Please enlighten me on that one if you will.

I've also just posted my intro post, so you're welcome to check it out :)

I guess I could rephrase that. The way it currently exists in the US and Canada is pushing for equal outcome or preferential treatment of certain groups of people. There is nothing wrong with wanting equal opportunity for all peoples, but when being "colorblind" is racist and treating one group differently based on race is racist there is a problem. I must admit that I do not follow European politics nearly as in depth as I follow North American politics, but there is definitely a mainstream endorsement of identity politics where I'm from. I believe we should see all peoples as individuals first, but the current political climate would rather see people as groups and legislate based on that.

Thank you clarifying that. I agree that we should see and treat all people as individuals. However for as long as we live in societies that by default favour a certain group of people and discriminate against others we must also take those unjust power structures into account if we want to create a truly egalitarian and just society.
