Are you here to connect with people or make a quick buck?

in #introduceyourself6 years ago (edited)

Simple question.

My answer:

I am here to connect with people.
I am not here to scratch your back if you scratch mine.
I am not here to be bombarded with bots (spam).
I am not here for the "money" - I am here for a fresh start in the world of social media and I intend on using this plaform for "social media", discussion / debate etc. If my content has value, in time I will have a reputation for delivering value and the "money" will be an natural extension / reward.

Many seem to be here begging for followers and re-steeming content of next to no real social value as "bait".

Why?

The argument is made that we need quantity not quality, and you cannot have both they say.

Bullshit.

"Facebook has this, and Insta has that and if we want to compete..." STOP

Think.

Why would anyone think it is reasonable to create social media on a blockchain, only to have it filled with rubbish?

Ok, so you see this an "investment", great, good for you, create something of value then.

Many are, many are not.

If Steemit becomes "unsolicited blockchain spam" by reputation, it will become as valuable as those little envelops you get via snail mail with discount coupons. I.e. a pain in the ass and not worth the paper / pixels before your eyes.

Have you ever opened your snail mail box and found a bunch of coupons, looked for a bin, none nearby, so you popped the "spam" into your neighbours mailbox? That is what re-steeming rubbish is. Pointlessness with a dash of jackass. Yay! (J) For now you are getting paid for this, but for how long? Does the 5 rooms for the price of 3 cleaning company send you a few cents for the passing on of their discount coupon? You see where this is going?

You are a co-creator in the fate of this platform.

Create "value" and this platform with become an "investment" by definition.

Re-steem for the stake of followers and this platform will slowly become worthless/useless.

My opinion / food for thought.

So what are you here for? Do I have a point or am I missing it?

Thanks for reading.

Peace

Update:

There is a Faq:
https://steemit.com/faq.html

I have been told by multiple people that introduceyourself can only be used once.

This is not the case.

Be original. If you feel the tag has an important function for an idea that is related to the steemit experience, use it, let the votes land where they may. Let the community decide, and do not take someone's opinion as a rule.

There are no rules here that is the point.

**Why did I choose to use the tag? **

Many do not know about the steemit introduceyourself tag and will go to that tag to see introductions, guides, ideas etc. etc. The tag was chosen by me after consideration. If it is not something you appreciate do as you will. If you got value from my opinion, again do as you will.

I was on Facebook for over ten years and do not recall ever being told that a tag I used was not for the post that I chose to use it on. This attitude from people that they can discredit an original idea/post simply due to its tag is very concerning.

Peace

Hey @satos, thanks for helping me revisit that very question of motive. My answer is to teach and be taught within the process of teaching. In short; share/ing.

All the best to you,

Phi23

Thanks for revisiting the question, it is one that I will ask myself often. I also wonder about "self censorship", has FB taught us well? Will we speak our minds here or paint a pretty picture? Time will tell. All the very best to your and yours.

This question is not for the introduceyourself tag

Are there rules for the tag?

How are you doing in steemit?

Not the smoothest start, but the entire space (blockchain) is new and it cannot be expected to be smooth sailing from day one. :) Do you agree?

Welcome to steemit @satos !!! but you are misusing introduceyourself tag. Good luck.

Under what rule am I miss using the tag?

Hello you are welcome to steem community

I want to share my ideas and have always been curious on how this whole experiment will turn out. I've been here for a while hiding behind the scenes reading the small amounts of quality I do find. It's interesting.

But as you've suggested most people don't see past the money (just look at the majority of the automated comments on your post) and thus can't see why they're not able to expand the platform to a wider audience. They can't see past their own limited view of the platform.

I have only spent a few hours on Steemit (minus the time compiling my own blog posts), and so far I am concerned yet also optimistic. I will continue to explore on this platform. Thanks for commenting mate. All the best with your Steemit experience.
