How the rain season in Cameroon brought me all the way to STEEMit.

Having a breathtaking view of Cameroonian hills and morning coffee next to me, it’s hard to get myself writing, but introduction post will not be done by itself.
It was only about two weeks ago when I found out about STEEMit platform and I must say, it was completely not clear for me what is it all about, since I am not very much into technology. But, let’s start from the beginning:

Few weeks ago, after arriving in Bamenda, a capital city of North-West region in Cameroon, while hiding from a huge amount of rain in a nice bistro, I met a guy, whom, at the beginning I considered a Polish homeless person. Do not get me wrong, it was a just a first white person I saw since some time and his long beard and hair and his worn and wet jacket reminded me about people I am passing, while catching a train back at my hometown. So, let’s say, the brain didn’t really ‘click’ the right way in this moment. Nevertheless, the guy @kedjom-keku @martinmikes turned out to be Czech Republic citizen who has been living in Cameroon for 5 years and is trying to save and restore the forest in its beautiful mountains. He was about to organize a seminar about STEEMit, since he finds it a helpful way to help his organization develop and invited me and my friends for this event. So then, here I am now, trying to say something about myself.

I am a 26years old women from Poland, who is currently far away from home. This situation however is pretty normal for me, since I have visited quite some countries and in many of them I stayed for longer than the standard ‘traveling time’ implies. In some of them I was working, in some learning, finally in some I was just taking the rest and traveling. What drives me to spend so much time away from home is people and nature. People – with everything they have to say about challenges they face and culture which shaped them, since there is no better source of knowledge then another person. Wherever I go, I am trying to soak in their stories and offer some of mine in exchange. Nature – as a perfect escape from the noise and chaos of big cities, from work and omnipresent pursuit of wealth. I believe it has its own stories to tell us as well, sometimes we just need to stop talking and start listening to find out its secrets.

Why am I in Cameroon? I am an intern who was sent here for three months to one of the local NGOs to learn and to understand, but after two months of being here I am sure, it will not be enough. Nevertheless, I will try to cover some of the challenges the country is facing and the efforts done by different organizations which are trying to make it better for this country and especially for North-West region.
I checked – there are actually no articles tagged as ‘human rights’ related in STEEM, so, there I go – I found my niche which is a core of my interest. I will try to bring some human rights challenges and issues closer to you from the human and political point of you. I will also share with you some of my travel experiences from Cameroon and 3 other African countries which I will visit in October. Having the content of my head shaped by different books, articles and organizations dealing with global issues and international development I will try write about my experiences in the context of power structures around us, some of which are there since many, many years influencing the world in the way, which is not very helpful while trying to bring the voice back to those who were never listened to. We will talk a lot about women’s rights, migration, the right to movement and how interdependencies between so called global North and South are shaping the reality of underprivileged.
I hope you will find all that inspiring and attractive enough to stay with me for some time.

For now, stay safe and see you soon!

Sara.

Very interesting! I saw that you joined recently so I'm gonna support you. Hope this upvote helps and maybe upvote some of my stuff too!
As a fresh steemian it can be hard to increase your steem power so my advice would be to give @MinnowPowerUp a go as you can earn up to 30% more steem power than just powering up! It's a subscription based daily upvote bot that draws its power from a delegation pool. I have also made this post where I explain my experience with the service in more depth and show how I earn over $1 a day in upvotes.
