From doctor to backpaker
Hello steemit community!
Finally, after thinking about it for so long, I have decided to make my first post so you can know me better.
My story ends and begins with my university degree. Later, you will understand why. I am a 25 year old Argentinian doctor, who a year and a half ago decided to change the course of her life completely and do what she always wanted, travel.
It was July of 2016 and I was overwhelmed with so much studying, exams and the stress that characterised my career. I was getting ready for my internal medicine exam, which is known for being particularly hard. I was so focused on studying when, suddenly my mind started to get lost in the beautiful world of dreams. I was jumping from thought to thought, until I found myself thinking on my future (I think I wasn't so focused on my studies by then).
So, my plan was always the same since my first day of medical school. Get my degree, immediately begin a specialisation and after that a sub specialization. That meant eight more years inside a hospital without any chance of doing something more with my life. So I gave myself that awkward question that everyone should do to their selves sometime. Is that what I really want? The answer came simple, quick and honest…. No.
¤¤So, what now?¤¤
Suddenly a thousand white pages appeared in front of me, the world was simply open for me. The possibilities were infinite. From the anguish of not having a plan for the first time in my whole life, came the possibility of simply doing whatever I wanted.
So then my fate was clear to me… I was going to travel.
¤¤Accompanied in madness.¤¤
It was not too long and I wasn't alone, my career companion and friend, Daniela, joined my plan.
Our destination?
Well nothing more than the dreamed New Zealand. But in the end this little trip to Middle Earth became so much more. But you will find that out in the posts to come.
So, by then I had a valued ally and a three steps plan:
-step number one: get out of my medicine degree on that same year (easy)
-step number two: get a job that allowed us to get the money that we needed in three months. (Easy peasy)
-step number three: start the trip
I know, it seams like a two drunks in a bar at 5 am plan. But we were sober and, even when I don't remember the exact time, I can assure you it was daylight outside.
And that's how this story began. A story I am still writing and I hope I never end. Full of obstacles, visas, airport runs and many many laughs.
Your life has been very interesting, well as long as you love what you are doing it doesn't matter. =)
