Hello people! Here I am just a few months after beginning my journey on steemit #introducing myself again because I realize I never confirmed my identity to the steemit community the first time around. proto is my alias and 26 is my favorite number, but my real name is Raul Segura. Here's my Facebook page:
https://m.facebook.com/roberto.segura.96
I'm 22 years old and I live in Chicago. Despite living in the city, I am an avid cultivator/collector/hunter of mushrooms, fruit-bearing trees and plants, and vegetables. Just look at my indoor window garden (and compare to older posts when it was empty).
In my room I'm growing herbs like basil, oregano, and catnip along with broccoli, wild "opium" lettuce, ginger, tamarind, beans, goji berry, mulberry, salsify, and oats. I have other seeds that I'm germinating including these Black Beauty Tomatoes, that I will eventually plant outdoors.
I like growing uncommon or unconventional varieties of plants and I always plant them in reused or salvaged containers unless they're going directly in the ground. I use whatever I can find from food containers to five gallon buckets. I actually had to buy a bin for my avocado tree however since I could not find anything of this size.
The avocado tree (largest) is my oldest tree. The rest, (left to right) guamúchil, sapote, a small double-trunked avocado, and quenepa, are from more recent years.
My love for everything green must come from my mom. Her windows are just as crowded as mine.
What I'm really excited for and have been all winter is my outdoor garden. There's still danger of frost so the only thing in it right now is garlic from last year.
I usually grow some kind of gourd in this garden, either bottle gourd so I can make bird houses out of them like the one I made below or just ornamental squash that can be dried or used while young in soups or salads.
With the growing season coming, I'll also soon be posting about various wild mushrooms I find. Many, like the morel and fairy ring champignon, are edible and can be found closer to you than you'd think.
These are some finds from the forest (all pictures are my own).
In a few days, I will receive my wine cap mushroom spawn (inoculated sawdust or similar substrate with mushroom mycelia) which I will be able to grow outdoors!
I enjoy cultivating fruits, vegetables, and mushrooms and wish to do so with you as well. Together, let us both learn from each other and meet like-minded individuals.
Thanks for reading!
P.S. sometimes I write about crypto and new altcoins/investing. I'm a beginner in this field too so it's ok. I like that I can learn from the helpful people in the steemit community because that's what steemit is all about.
Hello welcome to steemit!! it's really nice to have you here enjoy the platform and explore the community.....wish you all the best.
Thanks for the warm welcome!
Hi Thank you for #introducingyourself. Im myself quite new in steemit community but I realized that there are few things you could do to have a better start:
Mostly I invested a little bit in STEEM in order to purchase STEEM POWER and STEEM DOLLARS. Why? Its simply important. Without initial investment it will be very hard for you to build reach here and be noticed.
Im not sure if you ever heard about this site:

Perhaps you know it already :)
If you will reply to this message (that would allow me to believe that we may develop mutual engagement and help each other) then I will follow you and upvote some of your future posts.
Cheers and good luck.
Thank you very much! What is that site for?
Do you grow garlic? I have a garden too hehe.
Yes I have 18 garlic plants outdoors and one in a pot indoors.
