Does what we do define who we are?

Well if it does, then that would make me an award winning television director, internationally recognised photographer, marine scientist, traveller, adventurer, scuba diver, surfer and vegan sausage maker who'd rather be in the ocean than on dry land.

Sounds exhausting doesn't it?

In reality, although I'm all of those things, I don't believe they define who I am but are simply a window into the incredible adventure that has been my life so far.

So, who am I?

I'd like to think I'm simply an open, inquisitive and creative free-thinker who has a passion for travelling the world, meeting new people and learning new things............and photographing and filming the hell out of it all. My friends would probably describe me as the slightly crazy Scottish chick who they're not quite sure what she does but they know she always does it with passion.

What do I do?
I really am an award winning TV director........

...... an internationally recognised photographer.

However, five years ago I quit my job working for the BBC in Bristol, UK and moved to the other side of the planet in search of adventure. I now live in Cape Town, South Africa with my partner James, our cat TW, ten chickens and a lot of koi fish! I still have one foot firmly planted in the 'real world' making TV shows and selling pictures to allow me to spend as much time as I can in my 'adventure world'. I live in the most incredible place framed by breathtaking mountains and surrounded by the ocean and can't wait to share it with you all.

And how did I get here, to Steemit?

Well, you can blame @heiditravels for that!

I just happen to live about a 10 minute walk away from a world famous big wave surfing spot, and despite the fact it's taken me over two years to even learn to stand on a surf board, it's become one of my favourite places to photograph.

About a month ago, there I was snapping away when a smiling face came walking up to me with exactly the same camera! It's a long and funny story I'll save for another post but the stranger on the beach that day was none other than the world travelling, cryptocurrency guru @heiditravels. I don't think the phrase 'the rest is history' applies here as I'm really hoping this is going to be the start of something really exciting.

Can't wait to begin building a new network, making new friends and sharing more pictures!

Wow! That's a lot of things. It does sound exhaustion but I bet it might be fun. Having it all and leaving it behind for a search of adventure in life, now that is something. I will look forward to reading about how you found out about Steemit and more. Till then Keep Steeming On!

Thanks @firepower. When I write it all down it makes me seem much cooler than I think I really am. But maybe I am that cool. Let's see what the Steem community think. Good things I hope.

I think you are cool. :) Thos are amazing things that you are doing. Steem On!

Not so sure I'm cool, but I agree I'm lucky enough to be doing some very cool things.

Welcome to Steem Community @oceanelement! As a gentle reminder, please keep your master password safe. The best practise is to use your private posting key to login to Steemit when posting; and the private active key for wallet related transactions.

In the New Steemians project, we help new members of steem by education and resteeeming their articles. Get your articles resteemed too for maximum exposure. You can learn more about it here: https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@gaman/new-steemians-project-launch

Thanks @newsteemians. And I though formatting my first post was the hard part........but looks like I've got a steep learning curve ahead. Looks like the next step is to work out the difference between a private posting key and a private active key. This is a whole new language.......loving it.

@oceanelement! So excited that you've made it :)
Great first post, I'm so looking forward to reading more of your adventures with your epic humor and photos peppered in ;)

I miss my surfing buddy! And in honour of you I think my first proper post must be about some of our crazy adventures! Watch this space @heiditravels

Excellent :D

Thanks @jonathanxvi, just followed you as I checked out your feed and love the eclectic mix. Looking forward to reading some of the posts.

Welcome to Steemit @oceanelement

Very cool story and look forward to hearing the rest of it.

You have a new follower.

Keep STEEM N ON,

Welcome to the fold, my believe is that what you do only defines some your interests while in this realm, who you are is between you and your creator.
Very nice opening shot you have done here with your introduction. Look up @simplylizzle and @moderndragon , they are a husband and wife team of artists living in Cape Town as well, really nice folks. You might enjoy meeting them.
Until next time,
@sultnpapper

Thanks @sultnpapper for the recommendation, what a lovely idea to be able to connect with some fellow Steemers (is that what we're called?!?!?) in Cape Town.

Steemers , Steemians are the most used terms. You will find that there are quite a few in the Cape Town area from what I have seen on here with following the two folks I recommended to you. I think there is even a teamsouthafrica I have seen that they all belong too.
Best wishes,
@sultnpapper

Aaw, thanks @sultnpapper! That's kind of you to recommend us :)

@oceanelement you can look up either #teamsouthafrica or @cheetoblue who runs it to see about more Cape Townians on Steemit. They sometimes organize get togethers.

Love your work! Congratulations on all your awards.
We also live about 10 mins from the beach.
My husband and I share this account as it's more of his work related things, but you can have a look at my personal account at @simplylizelle
Hope you have a great day!
Lizelle

Hey Lizelle, thanks so much for connecting. You're going to recognise so many of the amazing place I plan on sharing with the Steemians (gone for Steemians as the collective noun as I'm Scottish and Steemer makes me think of someone who is really drunk!) But hopefully I might be able to share a few that are new to you! Going to check out #teamsouthafrica now and look forward to a real life meet up!

Oh dear. Yes in that case Steemian sounds much better :)
I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work!

She may need some dragons or cupcakes, either one or maybe both. It is a all about networking, helping friends and making friends. I might of done both with one suggestion. Speaking of friends, where is @scarletstar ? Haven't seen anything from her lately? She still trying to get her ducks in row?
Until next time,
@sultnpapper

:) Much appreciated !

Unfortunately she has been struggling with health problems so Steemit has taken a back burner. You can see what she's up to on FB or instagram though. Scareltstar on instagram and Facebook is https://www.facebook.com/scarlet.star.studio/

Give her my best wishes for a speedy recovery. I will keep her in prayer, along with you. I don't do any other social media , one platform is all I can manage, and this is it.

Thank you so much, I will let her know :)

Very cool Lisa! Great to see more of the adventurous type on here. Your photos are amazing

Thanks @tobydaniel2. Really excited to share them with like minded people and expand my horizons.

Hey @hiyo. Thanks, looking forward to the journey!

very interesting, check out my profile :)
