RE: Hi, I am Colette Dowell, A Newbie 'Steemian'
Howdy miss Collette! Glad to make your acquaintance, it sounds like you've got some AWESOME stories and wisdom to put on the chain here, I look forward to reading some of them! @porters shared your post in our Natural Medicine discord server, and I'm here to meet, greet, and leave a comment that I hope you can find useful while rallying our awesome community to show you some love ;)
Welcome to steem :) We're very glad you're here, and I hope you can dig yourself in and get pretty well established here! You'll find there's a good group of folks here with natural medicine and sustainability on their mind. Not the least of which are @riverflows (creator of @naturalmedicine), @sagescrub (creator of @homesteaderscoop), @freedomtowrite and @freedompoint (creators of @ghscollective). They're the ones driving the sustainability bus on steem. Lots of others like @porters, @walkerland, @mountainjewel, @sustainablelivin (@mariannewest's profile for her Sustainable Living Podcast), @squishysquid, @senorcoconut, @vanessamidwife, @ppmsilver, @allyinspirit, @makinstuff, @simplymike, @craigcryptoking, @buckaroo, @papa-pepper, @pennsif, @wildhomesteading, and many many more are the ones in the community making it such a great group to be with. They're all well worth a follow.
Most communities on steem currently meet on discord, so that's a really handy app for steemians looking to get into the swing of things. It offers a simple, user-friendly messaging place where we can all talk and keep up off chain. There are hopeful developments coming for on-chain options, but those are probably a few forks away. Til then, our three main groups are Natural Medicine, Homesteaders Co-op, and Global Homesteading Collective. The NM and GHSC ones link to discord, the HSCO link is to the marketplace built by @sagescrub where we are able to buy and sell sustainably produced goods using steem, SBD, and USD as well as gift and barter economics. It's the first marketplace of it's kind, and we're all quite excited aboit it.
Another great tool for steem interaction is @ginabot. A splendid notification service that works through discord to let you know about steem interactions on chain. She'll let you know when you're mentioned, when people send you money, when certain folks make a post, or when posts are made with your favorite tags. Very very helpful, and I think most steemians use Gina.
One thing you'll find is that there are a lot of interfaces with the steem blockchain. There's steemit.com, busy.org, steempeak.com, partiko.app, d.tube, and many others that all boast different features and benefits. I prefer steempeak, but it's a fun learning experience to try a few for yourself, as steemit is a very basic interface that leaves much to be desired. Thats an intentional situation though, as Steemit Inc (Stinc) has bigger things to worry about.
I hope this little introduction can help you a bit. Things like this weren't being done much during the hectic time when I joined steem. With the price of steem being down (you'll find nobody cares much about that), things have calmed down as the moochers and weak hands have left. The folks you encounter here are the ones that truly desire to be here and see promise in the platform. We're here for the long haul, and we hope you find value here as well. :)
Welcome,
Nate and the whole sustainability community of steem.
P.S. @circulartimes, I've set you to be the beneficiary of 75% of this comment's earnings. Guys, if y'all upvote this one, she'll get a bit extra ;)
Wow, what a lovely comment to me and very informational. Yes, I have no idea what I am doing. I am trying to read other's posts and learn. I did not know about the Natural Medicine People and such. I did find a few post by accident. I am a Naturopathic Doctor, I also live in survival mode in woods....so that is fun, I mean, it feels natural to me, to live this way. I do have lots of things I would like to share. I have very encouraging stories on healing others and self healing. I live in recovery, long story, not appropriate for this post.
However....wow...wonderful intro with links of others to check out....I like history, art, music, science and such, most anything NOT mainstream and needs to have some uummph behind it. - whether artwork, music or writing.....What I like about Steemit is I believe it to be composed of intelligent people whom do want to share and have a higher esteem about their platform. I was never on a platform like this until I had to join Twitter for the news commentary info I produced for an ole CIA Spy Dude still in intelligence analysis, and he always felt he had to make some kind of statement on how messed up things were. Nothing was ever positive, no smiles, nothing for me. I no longer work with him and Twitter sucks - soooooo.......I feel free now and very excited about the long haul here.....I will slowly learn about crypto currency, it's way out of my field, but this is an exceptional educational facility....so I should take advantage of the knowledge expressed here.
Yeah, I'm stoked to be a Steemian....Oh, does Steemit have the ability to upload Mpegs? Like Twitter? Lots of times I make short videos (real short for fun or info) and turn them into Mpegs and upload direct to my posting, is that possible here or do I always have to upload to my Dtube and then post the link for short video? I would appreciate that info....I want to say thank you for all of this you wrote to me. yeah....way fun here I think, and I feel it is the best Venue for me to be on for who I am.....CHEERS, Colette
Mpegs being audio files, right?
https://dsound.audio is a steem based audio sharing platform. Thanks for asking, I had never looked into that!
For video on steem, I'm not aware of anything besides https://d.tube. @mountainjewel has a tutorial on mobile uploading here. She is quite magical.
These other steem interfaces all require your private posting key, which you can find in your steemit wallet. Don't share it with anyone, lose it, or accidentally post it, or your account may be lost forever. Ask @nathanpiatt how I learned that ;) (that was my first account lol
Oh thanks for a reply. I looked into it by a search. No, you can not upload a Mpeg/mp4 direct, you must use Dtube or whatever.....so that's cool. I have a Dtube account......was wondering as it just simplifies, but then too, I was thinking of storage...not cool probably....so, yeah....little baby steps for this little baby Newbie......Cheers Nate
In the last few comments you've learned what took me nearly a year ;)
You're doing great!
Not only do you have an account on dtube, but one on every steem interface. There's bunches and bunches of them, and they all interact with the same blockchain with the same login. As you learn about crypro, you'll hear the term "block explorer." Each steem interface is a block explorer on the Steem blockchain. Partiko, steempeak, busy, steepshot, appics, they all have different features and different uses.
Oh wow, just went to https://dsound.audio Way cool, I see what they did, yes, those are audio files. I can do that for some songs I wrote. I was talking the mpeggers with video attached in file of audio, like a music video....etc.....so, this is good to know about that space for songwriters.....thank you so much....C
