My name is Mustafa and this is my story

in #introduceyourself7 years ago (edited)

February 2014 was the year when my life changed forever. Until then I had spent the last 12 years in a high school feeling nothing more than unappreciated and depressed. We've all been down that phase where it feels like the entire world is against you and that you don't matter to anybody. I was the typical high school loser that lacked social skills and spent most of my time alone or executed failed attempts to win the friendship of my fellow classmates and show them I could be "cool" too, but it always seemed to backfire.

Even at my lowest moments I always knew that I wanted to be something better. For me, the greatest satisfaction was to prove people wrong when they said I wouldn't be successful or achieve what I set out to do. On February of 2014, I left behind hell and walked into the next big phase, University.

I enrolled for a Bachelors in Computer Science because I always found comfort with computers. Thanks to my lack of social skills during high school, I developed curiosity towards technology and learning about what made things tick. Prior to joining the university, I took this same curiosity and applied it to people to find out why do we humans do what we do. On my journey of discovery, there were 2 books that I had read that I'd say, prepared me for life

  1. How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie
  2. Power To Kids by Zubair Ahmed

2014

After reading these books I realized the power of Positivity and the Law of Attraction and started applying all the tips and tricks to my life and the way I interacted with people. Within the first semester, I had already started making waves and people took notice. In the 2nd semester of the same year, 3 things happened:

  1. I joined the Student Representative Council of my university as the youngest member ever!
  2. I founded the Health and Fitness Club, Fitspiration as the President of the Club
  3. I got hired by a social media company called Linkagoal to be their Student Brand Manager.

It honestly stunned me that within a year I had already accomplished so much!

2015

At this point, I wanted to try anything and everything. This was the year of a lot of "Firsts":

  1. First time at Comic-Con
  2. First, of many events I Emceed, UOWD's Got Talent
  3. First major inter-university competition I took part in and came in 2nd
  4. First TEDx event my team and I organized at our university

This year taught me a lot in terms of what I'm really capable of and that sometimes you need to dive in head first without a plan because until you don't, you won't know what you've been missing out on!

2016

2016 had its equal share of hard work and adventure:

  1. I took part in my first Hackathon, the EI Appathon
  2. Travelled to the UK for the first time ever!
  3. Emceed for the Annual Inter-School Math competition, Mathalon
  4. Had my first Radio Interview to talk about my life and my experiences, exactly what I'm doing by writing this blog post!
  5. Started my Graduation Project!

The Radio Interview was an eye opener because this was when I realized that I could potentially reach celebrity status in the near future. It made me realize that I have what it takes to be relevant and make a difference or just be someone people what to see, meet or listen to. All I want is to be famous and successful, 2016 showed me I can.

2017

If you're still here reading this, God Bless you! Now in my 4th and Final Year of University, the pressure of work life started to build up. At the start of the year, I was already halfway through my graduation project and the worst was yet to come. This year I had discovered Shark Tank and this really helped me align and focus on my goal of becoming an entrepreneur. This year was all about setting myself up for life after university by diversifying my sources of income and adding worthwhile content to my CV. So to summarize 2017...

  1. Our university FINALLY got its own Mascot (This was something we tried to implement in 2014 when I was part of the Student Council) and I got to be the first one to wear it at the inauguration!
  2. My friends and I started a Short Film and Content Creation group called SaifTea First, you can check us out on YouTube!
  3. Took part in the DEWA Hackathon
  4. Took 2nd place at the IBM's Battle of the Bots
  5. Completed my Graduation Project!
  6. Went Vegan for 3 months in the summer (nobody saw that coming, lol)
  7. Started a photography page, The Euphoriagrapher, as a result of procrastination from studying for my exams!
