|ENG| Hi everyone,

I’ve been thinking the way of starting to this introduction for hours. It’s really hard to write something about yourself. That’s why without boring you guys, I’ll just introduce myself a bit, than I will get to the point.

I’m Melis and 25 years old. I live in Istanbul, Kadikoy. To me, I am living one of the most beautiful districts of Istanbul with the sweetest roommate and a monstrous cat.

Do not fall for her sweetness. Appearance can be misleading.

Undoubtedly loved ones: Istanbul, wine, gin and tonic, European (mostly Eastern European) & Middle Eastern cinema, sci-fi, watching or reading something for hours without moving and in the same spot, taking photos of loved ones, meatball, banana and playing computer games for hours. And taking bizarre photos of myself.

Like that.

I grew up in Istanbul, Kartal. Yes, definitely, welcome to the jungle! If you’ve heard anything about Kartal you’d understand why I said jungle. Kartal Hurricane passed with street and high school fights, lots of junk food, street games, first drinks and loves. It was great with good and bad memories. Our family and home were totally another type of jungle. My father is the type of guy who's always angry and curses while on the traffic and my mother was constantly saying that, “Hey! Don’t forget you are the father of two young girls. Stop cursing, damn it!”. And also, I have a sister. Our relationship normalized when I started university. Before that, it’s a big black hole. Full of pissing contests, and literally, fights. About my jungle, time passes and generally people become the person they said they would never be. So it happened to me too, I have become my father. Besides, my present self and my father's good young times are so much a like.

First thing she said to my father about me: “Can we throw her out the window?”

I studied at university in Istanbul as well and graduated from Communication Sciences Department. Those four years were a great help to find who I am. It’s not a nostalgic memory, it’s the truth. My department was related mostly to cinema, sociology, politics, and I loved it. Right now, I am working at a publishing house as a digital media specialist. Aaaah social media! The new job of our time! Cheap work force, speciality of our generation, full of people’s desires, place we’re looking for an attention. And before that, I’ve worked at advertising agencies as copywriter for almost 2 years. Even though the job was great, people were so whimsical.

Like I told you, I live in Kadikoy and it has been 3 years. It feels like a life time, but we are still in love with each other so much. For the first time in my life I went abroad for 8 days, at the age of 21 - Amsterdam and Paris. Believe me, I missed Kadikoy. Of course, it was awesome, beautiful and I couldn’t stand the greatness of those places. But, there, I realised that in Istanbul, we have got used to feeling the chaos, and it’s in us. Or I have no taste, I don't know.

I travelled on October, and it was so cold in Amsterdam. This beautiful city is hungry for the sunlight. So, in every café, chairs in the street was lined up side by side. When you're talking to someone you were turning your face to the sun. Beautiful!

In Paris, I went to Louvre Museum of course. It was astonishing! Almost spent a day over there, to be able to see all of it. I found someone familiar to me in Leonardo da Vinci’s great piece called The Virgin and Child with St. Anne.

Lastly, I’d like to explain what I’m planning to do in here and finish this introduction. Since always, I have been very into cinema (sci-fi, thriller, horror, drama etc.), foreign TV series, novels. With friends we always talk about it for hours! So, I thought, writing about it, might be fun. And also, I’ll try to write from a different perspective about those movies, games and novels both in Turkish and English, I hope.

Saatlerdir şu yazıya nasıl başlasam diye düşünüyorum. İnsanın kendisi hakkında bir şeyler yazması ne zormuş. O yüzden sizi sıkmadan, azıcık kendimden bahsedip hemen asıl meseleye geçeceğim.

Ben Melis, 25 yaşındayım. Benim için İstanbul'un en güzel ilçelerinden biri olan Kadıköy'de, dünya tatlısı bir ev arkadaşıyla ve bir adet canavarımsı kediyle birlikte yaşıyorum.

İstanbul'a, şaraba, cin & toniğe, Avrupa (çoğunlukla Doğu Avrupa) ve Ortadoğu sinemasına, bilim kurguya, -artırarak- saatlerce aynı yerde ve hareketsizce bir şeyler izlemeye ya da okumaya, sevdiğim insanların fotoğrafını çekmeye, köfteye, muza, saatlerce bilgisayar başında oyun oynamaya bayılıyorum. Ve garip suratlarla fotoğraf çekmeye.

İstanbul'da büyüdüm. Çocukluğum da Kartal'da geçti. Welcome to the jungle gerçekten. Mahalle kavgaları, lise kavgaları, gecenin bir körü yapılan cips-kola diyetleri, onlarca klasik sokak oyunu, ilk sarhoşluklar, ilk aşklarla geldi geçti Kartal kasırgası. Ev ayrı bir cangıldı ama ona hiç girmeyeceğim. Babam her zaman sinirli, araba başındayken sık sık küfreden; annemse arabada o küfrettiğinde "Hişşt, arabada babası olduğun iki tane kız çocuğu olduğunu unutma!" diyen biriydi. Bir tane ablam var. Kendisiyle olan ilişkimiz ben üniversiteye başladığımda kardeş ilişkisine dönüştü. Ondan öncesi koskoca bir kara delik gibi. Kavga, dövüş, sidik yarışları... Ablamın ben doğduğumda babama söylediği ilk şey: "Bunu camdan aşağıya atabiliyor muyuz?" olmuş. Anlamış kızcağız. Sonuçta zamanla benzemek istemediğiniz insanlara benzediğiniz gibi ben de gittikçe babama benzeyen biri olmaya başladım. Zaten gençliğimiz de neredeyse ikiz gibiymiş.

Üniversiteyi İstanbul'da okudum ve İletişim Bilimleri bölümünden mezun oldum. Üniversitede geçirmiş olduğum dört sene muazzam bir birikim oldu benim için. Bunu nostaljik bir geyik olarak söylemiyorum. Sinema, sosyoloji ve siyaset ağırlıklı bir eğitim aldım ve baya baya severek okudum ve bitirdim üniversiteyi. Şimdiyse bir yayınevinde sosyal medya uzmanlığı yapıyorum. Ah şu sosyal medyacılık! Çağın yeni mesleği; ucuz iş gücünün kaynağı, yeni neslin uzmanlığı, herkesin heves ettiği, fenomen olmak istediği, ilgiyi oralarda aradıkları. Öncesinde 2 seneye yakın da reklam ajanslarında çalıştım ama berbattı diyebilirim. Sonra yayınevine geçtim. Buralar baya sakin.

Kadıköy'deki yaşantımın 3. senesi geçtiğimiz yaz doldu. Bir ömür gibi gelse de hala kendisiyle tutkulu bir aşk içindeyiz. Hayatımda ilk kez yurtdışına 21 yaşında çıktım. Görece popüler ve güzel iki şehirde 8 gün geçirme şansım oldu; Amsterdam ve Paris. Kadıköy'ü özlemiştim. Elbette muhteşemdi, güzeldi, tahammül edemediğim kadar hoşuma giden bir hali, rahatlığı, sakinliği, imkânları vardı. Ama anladım ki bizim kodlarımıza kara düzen işlemiş. Ya da benim vizyonsuzluğum, bilemiyorum.

Amsterdam'a Ekim'de, bayağı soğuk bir havada gitmiştim. Güneşe aç bu şehirde bütün kafelerde sandalyeler güneşe doğru yerleştirilmiş. İnsanlar konuşurken suratını birbirine değil, güneşe dönüyordu. Çok çok güzel bence. Paris'teyse tabii ki Louvre Müzesi'ne de gittim. Muazzamdı. Hepsini gezebilmek için neredeyse bir günümü ayırmıştım. Leonardo da Vinci'nin ünlü The Virgin and Child with St. Anne tablosuyla da aramda ufak bir benzerlik olduğu iddia edilmişti.

Biraz da burada neler yapmaya çalışacağımdan bahsedeyim size. Sevdiğim janrdaki (bilim kurgu, korku, gerilim, dram) filmler, yabancı diziler, romanlar, oyunlar her zaman çok ilgimi çekti. Yakın bir arkadaş grubuyla da belirli janrlardaki şeyleri saatlerce konuşuruz, teorileri çarpıştırırız, yorum yaparız, sohbetini ederiz. Ben de düşündüm ki bunlar hakkında yazmak keyifli olabilir. Tüm bu filmlere, kitaplara, oyunlara daha farklı bir gözle de yaklaşmaya çalışacağım. Başlangıçta hedefim en azından gün aşırı sizlerle bir şeyler paylaşabilmek. Bu içerikleri de mümkün olduğunda hem Türkçe hem de İngilizce olarak paylaşmaya çalışacağım. Umarım beğenirsiniz.
