A banyan tree has been arrested in Pakistan for more than a century, do you know why?
The incredible story goes back to 1898 when a banyan tree planted in Landi Kotal (Pakistan) was "arrested" under the orders of a British army officer.

The tree that has been chained for more than 100 years, was arrested by James Squid, who, under the influence of alcohol, thought that the tree was staggering toward him. Threatened by the attempt of the tree, the officer decided to teach a lesson to the offender. Once given the order, the tree was arrested immediately.
To this day the prisoner is chained with a sign hanging from his branches that says: "I am detained. One night, a heavily drunk British officer thought he was moving me from my original location and ordered the sergeant to arrest me. Since then I have been detained.
The tree in captivity has become a kind of curiosity and a local attraction, both for locals and tourists who witness one of the most unfair acts there may be.

Locals say the tree is a symbol of the dramatic British laws of the Raj Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR). In fact one of them mentions that the tree is a constant reminder of injustice and unjust laws.

El árbol que lleva más de 100 años encadenado, fue arrestado por James Squid, que bajo la influencia del alcohol, pensó que el árbol se tambaleaba hacia él. Amenazado por el intento del árbol, el oficial decidió enseñar una lección al ofensor. Una vez dada la orden, el árbol fue arrestado de inmediato.
Hasta el día de hoy el prisionero está encadenado con un letrero colgado de sus ramas que dice: “Estoy detenido. Una noche, un oficial británico fuertemente borracho pensó que me estaba moviendo de mi ubicación original y ordenó al sargento que me arrestara. Desde entonces estoy detenido.
El árbol en cautiverio se ha convertido en una especie de curiosidad y una atracción local, tanto para los lugareños como los turistas que presencian uno de los actos más injustos que puede haber.
